I would have to say this is my biggest fear sagging skin..............next to the fear of the first time I get to eat real food.....??
My insurance will cover the skin removal if it causing problems, so I guess it is fixable....but my friend told me I was being pretty vein to think about my sagging skin....I should just be happy not to be fat.....I answered with "I and not trying to be skinny, but healthy" Tho I am not going to deny she hurt my feelings....

Hi angee you have ever right to be concerned about sagging skin. I call my arms "bat wings " because of the sagging skin underneath when you look at them from the side view they are thin( for the first time in many years) but all the years of carrying around the extra fat has left them withalot of sagging skin. Starting to show some in my stomach too and the upper part of my legs. Iam hoping that riding the exercise bike and walking will improve the leg issues. Yes insurance covers skin removal if they deceide it
is causing skin irritations or yeast infections in those area's. I know alot of people paid out of pocket money to have the extra skin removed. Don't have that kind of money so i am gonna have to rely on exercise. I know one lady at a support group meeting i went to before surgery told me, if you want tolook good naked then don't have the surgery she was referring to the weight loss surgery. Well i am not trying to impress anyone with this body just want to feel good and be healthy i have no desire for anyone to see this body underessed, you're younger than me so you'll probably do alot better when it comes to sagging skin cause your youth will be on your side. I'm 56 so i've had years of bad food choices and not exercising etc that caused my excessive skin. Stick to your plan others may not understand your concerns but all of us whom have had the surgery understand what you are going through. This room is a great place to vent and get your ? Answered. Hang in there and remember you're doing the surgery for you and you are important. Others will be jealous of how great you look and you can credit yourself for all the hard work and effort you've put into becomming the person you want to be.

I don't think it's vain to worry about sagging skin. After all, if you lose 100 pounds, there may (or may not) be a lot of excess skin. I would wait until that happens to start worrying about it. It may not happen.
I have lost 41 pounds (without surgery) and so far my leg skin looks good and the skin around my middle looks like it's going to snap back. So it's hard to tell what you will look like after you reach goal.

Angee,

I am brand new here today but your concerns just hit me emotionally and I had to respond. I work in an environment where everyone is thin and very prejudice towards overweight people. My boss was overweight and had the gastric bypass surgery. The people at work said horrible things about him being lazy and a failure. He looks wonderful and has helped me make my decision to have the surgery. To make a long story short I have chosen to not tell anyone about the surgery and have decided that these people are not really the people I want to consider friends. Until more people are educated about how hard the surgery and post surgery living really is I dont think people need to know about such a personal decision.
You may have to find new friends but I always think that things happen for a reason. You are going to be starting a new life and with that may come new friends who are truly supportive and love you for who you are and what decisions you may make. My therapist told me I will change and become a different person. I believe that you will too. We are all going to have to change and whilst it may be somewhat painful, we will be happier in the end!

hi Angee i went to see my therapist a few days ado and we discissed sagging skin . she told me the military has a program where the remove your loose skin free as long as you agree to donate it to wounded service men , she said she will get all the information for me and i will pass it on . i think its a great thing , they help you and you help a war hero .

much love renie

Hi Angee,
I have the same concerns and it's not about vanity, it's about health! That skin still weighs you down and can affect your health. I'm hoping when I get down to my goal weight, my insurance will cover any skin removal necessary. I already have skin irritation issues due to sagging tissue just due to weight, so I'm guessing it's going to get worse. Like another person here posted, most of the general public see weight loss surgery as an easy out. They have no idea it's just a tool and you have to work just as hard! I also did not tell anyone from work except for two people in my office. One of those co-workers I've worked with for 8 years and I consider her a friend. The other co-worker's wife also had weight loss surgery, so I knew he'd understand. The rest of my co-workers....well, quite frankly, my personal life is NONE of their business!! My friends and family are all aware and supportive of my decision and my husband is wonderful...that's all that matters to me!

I am totally embarrassed by my excess skin. My weight loss was over 12 years ago. I have bat wings and the sag above the knee and loose belly skin. I am trying to find a way to have my insurance pay for this surgery since I too don't have the money. I don't have yeast infections and all of he other things; however, with bat wings it makes you uncoordinated. If anyone nows of a surgeon wanting additional practice and would do the surgery for free, I am willing to take that chance.

Ashamed of my sagging skin

I am post 12 years and still ashamed of my sagging skin. I wear quarter-length shirts or I old my arms a certain way; unfortunately, people still notice. I need my arms, tummy, and thighs done. I wish there was a doctor that would do the surgery at a cheaper cost like an attorney that takes a case pro-bono.

I am getting desperate. I teach fitness and I am unable to wear a tank top without feeling subconscious.

Thanks for reading.

Hi!!! WELCOME to the Forum!!!

My skin is also loose and it is very upsetting. I never had wrinkles because my fat filled out my skin so well. I hope I can get approved for surgery but I want to lose all my weight before I try to get my plastic surgery. I knew my skin would not go back to shape because I'm older and I was just too heavy and my skin was just over stretched. Well now I may have wrinkles in my neck and saggy, baggy skin in my arms and tummy but I sure do feel better. Being healthy is the most important thing, I know, but it would be nice to have less wrinkly, saggy skin.

my doctor told me if you have problems from sagging skin like gaulding from sweating etc. complain so they can log it in your chart. the more they can show that its charted alot of insurance companys will then pay to have it removed.

Hi Renee,
I love that the excess skin would go to help wounded service men. Were you able to get the information? If so, would you be able to pass it on to me?

This is definitely one of my fears, but I was also told it could be removed if needed. Hopefully with only being 19, most of skin will tighten up with toning exercises.

My daughter thought this was the lazy way of losing weight. She is manic about exercise. It hurt, but when I finally found out what its all about and shared the process with her, she changed her tune. If anyone thinks this is easy then they are not educated on the process. This may be a teachable moment for people. I'm going to try to view it that way. It will be obvious anyway when it starts coming off.
