It sounds to me that you possibly are eating too much at once and you might not be eating slow enough and chewing well enough before you swallow. Also tiny bites goes down easier than large bites. What I used to do is I would make up a bunch of foods that are allowed in the fridge.. such as egg salad, tuna salad, hard boiled egg, meat loaf, sweet potato, macaroni and cheese, chicken, beef, and pork cooked long and slow and tender, then cut super thin and in tiny pieces. After you do all this cooking you can divide it up into small containers and freeze most of it and just take out what you will be eating every few days. Then when you just start to get hungry take a spoonful or two of something you made and heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds and that way you wont get ravenously hungry. Keep in mind foods like potatoes and macaroni and cheese need to be eaten in very small portions, like I used to get maybe 12 portions out of a small potato. Your new tummy is tiny, you dont need to eat much to fill it up. I think maybe you just need to eat more often but in tiny amounts. Also try applesauce and cottage cheese because they are easy to digest. I used to like to mix them together because the applesauce made the cottage cheese sweet. Stay away from bread because bread will tend to make you gag and throw up. However I was allowed 2 crackers per meal which is good to put tuna or egg salad on. :) Good Luck..
P.S. if you keep throwing up after trying to eat more often and tiny amounts then you need to call your surgeon because something is wrong.

Have you spoken to your Dr. about the throwing up?

If eating and drinking are making you throw up, Call your surgeon ASAP.

You may possibly have a narrowing / stricture in your new opening that food passes through..

Talk to your DR. ASAP so he / she can see what's going on.

The hunger your feeling can also indicate a possible ulcer in your pouch..

Pre-surgery I had 13 ulcers, when those buggers would act up, my symptoms were hunger so I would eat to have something in my belly for the excess acids to work on. The human body is an amazing thing.

Hi honeyhoney269

I am 2 months post op as well and I am having a lot of the same problems as you. I think a lot of my problem is that I eat to fast. I get hungry and then I eat to fast which makes me very nauseated and I feel like crap. This has been a big problem of mine. I have spoken to my surgeon and he said that if this continued he will possibly want to do an EGD to check things out. Good luck and let me know how you are doing.

That's exactly what my problem is, I get to hungry and eat to fast. We really have to take smaller bites and eat more often. I found tuna is best for me! I use whole wheat bread but I only use a half of slice, it fills you to stop the hunger feeling but you have to keep eating a small bite all day long. I gets kinda rough for me. I was use to skipping breakfast, we can't do that anymore! We have to eat small bites all day long. Good Luck hope you feel better soon! My surgeon said the same about the EDG but I found I was eating to fast an not chewing completely. Getting to hungry, waiting to long to eat NOT good.

You are on to exactly what you need to do. First of all I am surprised you are saying you are hungry. I am never hungry.

I do hear rumblings in the stomach, ( I think the old unused stomach ) but I don't equate that to hunger at all .

Secondly, you should not be eating any more than a 1/2 cup of foods. I usually stick to a 1/3 cup of protein. You should take at least a half hour or more to consume this 1/3 cup. Small bites. Chew to oblivion. I once had someone tell me to do no less than 32 chews per bite. Make sure the food is literally dissolving in your mouth. You may want to stop half way through your meal to let things settle down; especially if you start to feel discomfort.

The throwing up is dangerous. You may be consuming foods you shouldn't be. Remember sugar free and fat free.

A "filling" breakfast for me is one soft boiled egg and a 1/2 slice of whole wheat toast. Sometimes I cannot finish all the toast. I take about a 1/2 hour to consume this and that is probably still too fast. I stop half way through so I can get all the belching out of the way. We are like babies and we need to get the excess air out before continuing to eat. (burp :) )

I also agree a prior response stating you should already be discussing all this with your Doctor and your nutritionist and your patient advocate. I have them all and they are all very responsive.

Getting to group support meetings are also critical so you can rely on others with experience to help you along the path as you learn how to eat and drink with your new small stomach.

i'm naseas all the time! its been since oct for me. I just drink....wait for it to pass. same with eating.

Hi,

Have you discussed this with your Doctor. My Doc sent me home with an Rx to prevent or calm the nausea should it occur. I had one occurrence and that was that. I would hope that it passes for you as well.

Also, are you equating the "full" feeling with nausea? Perhaps, you are eating too much at one sitting and still eating it too quickly. This will cause that feeling as well.

I remember the recommendation for me was no more than 1/2 cup food in any one meal. However, I found that to be too much. So I cut it back to 1/3 a cup of food in one meal. I didn't allow myself to get too close to being full. I felt a whole lot better by doing this.

So, for example in the morning I would have one poached or soft boiled egg and that was that. I would allow an hour or so to go by and then have another soft boiled egg. This worked for me. Secondly, I learned to slow down my eating. You have to slow down, I mean really slow down especially in the early weeks. This helped. I also stopped about half way through that one egg meal and allowed all the burping to happen. Trapping gas as a result of eating to quickly or too much is uncomfortable.

Even with drinking I would drink a little stop, burp, burp, burp and then drink some more. I could take as long as 45 minutes to drink a 12 ounce Isopure protein drink.

Hope I gave you some things to try here.

Ralph

Well I found that if you don't chew completely and eat small bites slowly, it causes this! If you're eating small bites and chewing completely slowly, and still having this problem, Call your surgeon ASAP! I had my surgery in Oct. as well and now i'm able to eat without nasea now, That I chew completely and the first two months have passed. I do find that fish an chicken are easier to digest for me. Good Luck hope this helps...
