Protein shakes

I couldn't handle the Bariatric Advantage shakes they gave me. As an alternative, they recommended EAS Myoplex lite and Boost Calorie Smart. I've tried both and found I tolerate them pretty well. I still get tired of the sweet taste in my mouth all the time though. But if I have a cup of broth before or after each shake, it really helps.
Hi Nanette. I had the Bariatric Advantage shakes my first go around. I dreaded having to do it over again when my surgery was rescheduled. I tried the samples of the Unjury shakes, vanilla and chocolate. I found I liked them, at least for now. Ordered them last night. Hope they continue to taste good.

I mentioned Unjury to my surgeon a few times and he didn't respond well. He said he preferred the Myoplex lite or Boost Calorie Smart. Not sure why. But they are working ok for me. Been on them for two weeks today (surgery is tomorrow) and I've lost 22 lbs. I think I'm going to try the Unjury post-op and see how I like it.

Hi, I just joined and noticed your protein problem. I use CHIKE and love it!!, 28 protein, stomach tolerates it and has a coffee taste!

Getting discouraged. I thought I had the perfect chocolate shake based on reviews of it. Decided to try it out even though I haven't had surgery yet. Doesn't taste as good as I had hoped. I'm now buying a sample pack from Unjury. I hope I will find one of those to be tasty. I've also been told that I can put sugar free flavored coffee sweeteners in the shakes. I think I will also try that. I HAVE to find something I can use for my 2 weeks of shake only diet. I almost failed last time. Crossing my fingers.

Congrats on your weight loss. Good luck tomorrow and let us know how it went. I'll be thinking of you.

Very interested you were able to have one of the Boost products. My doc requires shakes to have a first ingredient of whey protein isolate. Unjury has that, which it surprised me that they still tasted good. I liked premier shakes, but they only had whey protein. Not the isolate. Not sure what the big deal with the isolate is.

Welcome Nanette!!! I'm so excited for you..tomorrow you will start a journey that will change your life.

If you bought your protein shakes from a health food store, they will let you return them and choose another. The health food stores also will give you samples of any shake. My surgery is November 18th. Keep up the good work! :)
Your surgery day is coming up. Are you getting excited?

Yes! Just had surgery yesterday morning and all went well. Not too much pain. Walked twice in hospital yesterday and once this morning. I'm tired but I feel pretty good. Hope to go home today.

I'm a little over 3 years post op. I've lost almost 60 pounds but am at a plateau. I actually fell off the weight loss train but now I'm back on track. After your surgery the most important thing to remember is that you most eat protein first! I also purchased a tub of vanilla Premier Protein powder so I'm going to be trying out some of those protein shakes in the book.
Tamara you have lost 60 pounds in three years? That sounds very discouraging

I'm using Premier Protein Shakes and powder. Bought a book off of Amazon which has plenty of protein shake recipes that I'm eager to try. The book was by the Bariatric Foodie.....but I don't recall the title.
I have that same book. Going to experiment this weekend. Currently I am using Muscle Milk for protein shakes. they are actually pretty good. I have drank them even before I decided to have the surgery. My surgery is Jan. 10th. I am excited.

Debbyg, your surgery is coming up so soon! How are you feeling about it?? I hope you will keep us all updated on your progress! We will all be keeping you in our thoughts and prayers on the day of your surgery :)

Have you tried gen pros medical grade protien powder? I've gotten it on Amazon... Can be mixed with anything from water to milk. Including yogurt, pudding, cottage cheese etc... All without changing the flavors.... I mix it with crystal lite.

if my scales are right, I have lost 24 pounds on the protein shakes since Dec. 28th, when I was weighed at my doctor's office. The first week I was doing a shake for breakfast and dinner and eating lunch. I didn't have to start just protein drinks till the 3rd but I started them on Monday. My surgery is next Tuesday. I am not nervous but I am ready for it to be over. I hope to lose 120 lbs. I know I can do it. My husband has decided to do the protein shakes with me. I have a blender so I am going to make my own and see what I can come up with. I have a book I bought on Amazon with recipes for bariatric shake recipes and there are several I want to try. Wish me luck!

I bought the Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacement powder to try. It smells good. I got vanilla so I can mix it with several things. I am going to try it today and see how it is.
