I got the RNY-gastric bypass. Because of I was diabetic. Bypass will lose weight faster and eat less than the sleeve, my sister had the sleeve and is doing very well with it. I no longer have the take any diabetic meds. I was 205 on day of Surgery on May 2nd and now I am down to 149 lbs I was 227 when I started program but I also lost 58 lbs before that. It was the best decision I made for myself!!

I actually didn't choose WLS initially in any form, I was in a consultation for a desperately needed upper hernia repair, as my stomach and esophagus were barely connected. Part of that consultation went over the damage that had occurred and it was imperative that I not have any forms of acid reflux or heartburn after the repair was done, as it would significantly increase my chances of developing throat cancer. That's when we entered the realm of discussing gastric bypass. The surgeon walked me through all the various types of WLS, and we discussed the pros and cons of each and he ultimately left they type up to me, however, he did tell me the sleeve would not in any way stop reflux or heartburn, nor would the DS. I had the bypass done at the same time the repair was done. It was a rough recovery for the first three months, it was 2 major surgeries at once, however things are improving daily. I can tell you I haven't had any reflux or heartburn since the surgery. I also had a major change in my taste buds and no longer want sweets. Not sure if that will change in the next few years or not. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck in your decision and hope you find what works best for you!
