Welcome to the group Pamela. I think you'll find support & encouragement in this group. Your doing well so far on your attempts to lose weight. I think you'll be able to reach your goal of 17 more pounds. When you reach the point of the liquid only diet before surgery, that seems to take a lot off, I lost 13 lbs. in a week. Higher intakes of protein and water will help you lose the weight quickly. Best wishes on your new journey!

I'm sorry I didn't see this message sooner. HEY, you know the old song Lean On Me? That about sums up what I wanna say. Just please pretty please be patient with me cause we are in the same boat with our own oars and no experience rowing. One day we will be Olympians...maybe.

its like this last few pounds they want off is the hardest ever I don't get it I do same thing everyday everything they tell me to do.

Hey just saw you post. Please don't give up. You are taking great steps to change the way you are living you life. Grandkids will see that you are making an effort and that will help them see you I'm a new light. I know you said you are tired of living like this. At least you are alive. Breathe. Take on step at a time and don't undermine those small victories. Just getting up in the morning and choosing to make better choices for that day is a Hugh success.

Thank you so much hun,and ya you are right I do same up everyday and that alone is amazing,I normally am the one that loves to help others and give others support,I never give up I've been through a lot in my life I mean a lot,but I never give up my son before he passed 2 years ago use to call me a warrior and a survivor,, he use to say he's never seen a girl go through everything I've been through and just keep going,,so he's my inspiration,,but here lately its like every corner I turn something goes wrong, big bump in road well I just have to get up and jump over that bump, I'm scared and I don't say that to my other kids,,but I don't want them to worry either,I'm glad I do have support I'm getting some on here and that's great, thanks,

So you mean after I lose the 17 pounds they will put me on liquids only and I have to wait longer to have surgery?

That completely depends on your surgeon, but I haven't heard of anyone that hasn't had to do the full liquid diet for at a minimum a week, some people for 2 weeks and others for 3 weeks. The purpose of the full liquid diet is to clear out your liver completely, and make it pliable and soft so when they lift it out of the way to perform the work on your stomach it doesn't form cracks or tear in any way along the exterior, causing internal bleeding. Our livers are usually full, breaking down the foods we eat, they are stiff and sturdy along the outside due to the fullness, so your surgeon has you on the liquid diet for your safety. Whether you are getting the sleeve, bypass or switch, it is a major surgery, even if done laparoscopically. Your doctor is reducing the risks of complications during surgery by having you do the full liquid diet. How long you wait for surgery once on that diet will be at the discretion of your surgeon. I only did a week long liquid diet. I was never hungry, as I added protein powder to broth and soup so it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't fun either. Others struggled with it a lot for various reasons. Remember the liquid diet is a benefit to you and your safety while going into surgery! I just viewed it as something I did along with the psych eval, stress test, etc. By the time you get to the full liquid diet, your surgery date it set, and you can start to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Focus on that light, it is the beginning of the new you! Don't let it be the reason you don't go through with the surgery, it is just one more step in this process to achieve a happier healthier you. You can do this!

Any time. Just had a chance to get back to you. I see this as a journey and no two are alike. I found that what someone might experience, I may not. But it is still worth talking it over with someone. Glad I can help.

So why can't I go on it now to lose my 17 pounds before surgery? Would that help me lose, like do the shakes and maybe some broth, cause I no i can do it I don't get hungry much anyway?

You could definitely do the liquid diet now. I see no harm in it. So long as your are getting all the vitamins and such that food provides or are taking vitamins. You will have to take them after surgery so it would not be too bad an idea.

What I learned from the wise members of this support group is to take things 1 step at a time. There will be all kinds of "delays" along the way to eventually reaching your goal of weight loss and a healthier lifestyle. I have learned that even though it takes what seems like "forever" to get to the point of surgery, it's giving me the time to learn a new way to approach food and exercise. From what I read from the others here who are much more experienced, the weight loss surgery is just the start of another new adventure. I feel the stronger my good eating and exercise habits become prior to my surgery, the better off I will be after the surgery. ;)

Thank you hojo for info, yeah I've been doing this diet and planning for over a year really,so I'm excited about surgery and then they, the insurance only gives me so long to do it or they deny me,so its a lot to take in. I need a new life for me that's for sure,I've lost a lot,in last few years, and my life has been turned upside down, and my health is really bad so I want to get healthy that's for sure,I'm glad I got support groups to depend on.

Pam, you can do it, 17 lbs sounds like a lot but just work on one lb at a time, exercise, make sure you eat breakfast every morning, an omelet is a great way to start the day. I have a protein shake for lunch and maybe some chicken and a veggie for supper, that is basically what I had before and after surgery, most days even now it is my choice of food and I am close to a year. It worked and is still working for me now, good luck
