Slowing things down...

So far, my biggest hang up as a bypass patient is slowing things down. Eating after this surgery is such a chore. Chew, chew, chew, swallow...wait a bit, start over. Blah! Eating takes forever now! o_O I know that eventually I will get used to this process. At some point. Not anytime soon, as I'm still complaining about it...but yeah, someday. :D Heaven help me when I forget to slow things down because my new belly doesn't let me get away with anything. :( Yes, yes, I know that was part and parcel to the whole thing but sheesh, sometimes it's just been a long day and I am not focused and well...not the best way to end the day. I can't be the only one that finds the challenges to this new lifestyle at times frustrating! Anyone else have any little annoyances that you might want to share? Anyway, thanks, just needed my moment of 'grrr'...back to positive thinking! ;)

I'm in my third week post op and having a hard time getting some foods that are "legal" down. I burb a lot and I'm always afraid of stretching the stomach.

I think I need to slow down often as well. I know it should take up to 30 minutes to eat. But it seems like I'm always in a hurry. I feel I might have stretched my stomach cause I gotta have a drink on hand. I mean what if the food was a little too dry or salty or spicier than expected. Waiting 30 after I eat is challenging to say the least. I will keep on striving to do better but I realize that it's the hardest part of the lifestyle change for me.

I had the same issue it gets better over time m seven months post op now I have to watch that I don't eat the wrong things or to much. Even though can only eat a small amount I can overeat if I eat all day long. So I weigh every day to keep myself in check. I'm only eleven pounds from goal weight.

I felt the same way for the first couple of weeks after surgery, but felt I couldn't tell anyone because I was afraid they would say I told you say, but now I am a year out and about 10 lbs from my goal and feel wonderful, I am so happy I did it and when you are able to eat regular food again and more weight comes off you will be glad you did it too, what you are feeling is normal, and we are here to help you along the way

Welcome to the group Wanda, congrats on the surgery! :) I am not sure of the food differences/restrictions between a sleeve patient and bypass patient but I do know for bypass patients we are supposed to wait a full year before eating nuts, lettuce, or any food that is typically hard to break down in the stomach which is much harder after the reduction in size from the surgery. I think on the flip side of that, if you take the nuts and grind them into a flour or paste you can add them to your meals as extra protein. :)
