have you had an appointment lately?

Oh and I had an appointment today with the nutritionist. Apparently I'm not eating enough solid food to satisfy where I "should" be by now. They are concerned about my 'quality of life' from a food aspect and want me to improve in that area. How frustrating. :( I just spent a whole lot of time figuring out what I could eat successfully without getting sick and now I feel like I am starting over...*sigh*

As of New Years Day I hit 100 lbs. lost. :D
That is awsome. Keep up the good work. Hey, by the way what do you do when you feel like your old eating habits are coming back? I have been in a bit of a struggle trying to fight off the emotional eating ever since the holidays. Any advice. Could use the support.

I can't eat much at the moment, but I have those feelings at times of what I would do if I could like your having. I am worried that when I can return to eating normally I will have a battle on my hands as well. I have thoughts of eating a big, greasy, bacon laden hamburger with all the fixins' and want to wash it down with an ice cold Mountain Dew, however, recently, the smell of hamburger meat is a trigger for me and just the thought of the sugar content in one swallow of my old favorite drink makes me shutter, not to mention the fact that it would prolly air me up like a balloon and I would suffer discomfort for days! :( In the meantime however...to try and be helpful...:D I am looking into alternatives to what I loved to eat before surgery. I have been looking up the 'Keto' versions of things and then I remove from that or substitute healthier versions if there is still too much fat or sugar. I am up for suggestions as well if there is anyone who has struggled with this post surgery!

What is Keto?

Not yet for me. I go back in February for the six month checkup. I'm losing weight very slowly. I am considering going back to soft foods or even pureed. But I really need to think about it. Sometimes it gets on my nerves
Yes I understand Just how you feel! I'm now four months post-op and have only lost about 35lbs. What's going on?? I know they say it's better to lose it slowly but I've expected to have lost more than what I have at this point. I'm just going to keep doing the best I can.

My guide book states that with the RNY expected weight loss is 85% at 1 year. And with the sleeve 75% at 18 months. So I guess we that had the sleeve are on track o_O. I cannot expect to see a significant difference til 2019. It is time to buy new pants. Since I cannot find a belt. And I won't wear suspenders. I sometimes wish I had the RNY because of probability of quicker results. But I am satisfied because it would've have given me worse problems with the diabetes.

What is Keto?

It is the abbreviation used for the Ketogenic Diet. The keto diet is well known for being a low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy. Unfortunately for bariatric patients, the keto diet is a high fat diet, and we can not take in large amounts of fat, so if we considered going on this diet, modifications would be needed to be successful at it. :)

100 down. Yeah for you. Good work. Was it difficult are do you feel the weight came off pretty easily?

Actually, it was a bit surreal and I didn't notice it at first. Because my focus was on the other surgery I had, and then the first 5 or so months I had some severe nausea, I really could have cared less about the weight loss. It was kind of like...'oh, I've lost 50 lbs. and my clothes are loose, nice but I just want to stop wearing this patch behind my ear and stop being so sensitive to all smells' I felt kind of like I was pregnant again, only the scale said I was losing instead of gaining. When I put on a pair of jeans and they fell off at around 75lbs lost, I was like...'oh' but it never really felt 'real' to me even then. I had a friend that took a picture of me from before surgery and one after and showed me them side by side on New Year's, that is when it really was like 'Oh, hey, lookie there!' and I have dropped nearly 14 dress sizes, I have like 3 things that fit me and so yeah, reality is kind of sinking in now! Kind of made me feel like a dork for awhile, but I'm catching up to the weight loss side of things now that the nausea is under control. :) As for the loss itself, after I got used to the regular 'pit stops' my body likes to make to adjust to the constant weight loss, it has gotten easier. I don't get nearly as frustrated now when the scale gets stuck. I don't know that working out 5-6 days a week was difficult, it was just a huge change and adjustment for me and now I'm hooked on daily exercise. I can't say it was 'easy' though, I didn't get to do any of it the normal way other patients do. I lost it through constant movement and sickness, totally not recommended to anyone, ever! Thanks for asking! I hope you are finding success on your journey!

Thanks for the reply and that is still awesome to hear the transitions you have made through your journey. It's always encouraging to hear how others have found what works for them. So thanks.

I had my six months today. Kinda bummed but not too badly. I was told that I haven't lost what to be expected ar this point however it is still coming off. Have to see a GI soon. Things are not looking too fantastic but I understand why u have had setbacks. Then I was told that I shouldn't be hungry every two hours and not to eat more than three meals a day. Sigh. Doubt I can pull that off with the current issues. But I will only need to loose 16 pounds to be out of the morbid obesity catagory. Woot. I can do that. Might not be instantaneous but I'll do it. Hope yall are well. I am sorry I have been away awhile. Been going through sone stuff.

The fact that it is still coming off is amazing, and I bet you feel much better than you did when you started this journey, I'm glad you are back by the way, we are here to help each other. You can do this and we all will help you do it

You've been missed Carolyn! Welcome back! I agree with Tracy, if it is still coming off you are still on track! I didn't meet what my doc wanted me to on my 6 month post op either, but I kind of didn't care because I had finally stopped being sick daily and that was a relief on it's own :) You've got this! Just keep going!

Thank ya'll for the encouragement. I missed you too. Gotta lot on my plate. What a pun! Anyway, It builds up my confidence to have support from ya'll. I was kinda bummed because they went from telling me to eat nearly half a dozen small meals to only three a day. No starchy veggies and no sweet/potatoes. Most of all no bread. What the hay hay? I can't get a grilled cheese ? ! Anyway, it's also no pasta. Welp. Pasta salad is out the back door. I want to Eat right now. My question for you ladies....and maybe a gentleman or two...is what is the difference between starving and wanting comfort food? Is the feeling all the same? Am I hungry every two and half hours cause Im stressed? Look forward to your feedback.

Unfortunately I think you are actually hungry. I have found that the biggest difference between sleeve and bypass patients is the hunger factor. Because they don't sever the connection with your head like they do for DS and bypass patients, all the buds I have that have had the sleeve still have hunger pains and cravings. 'Comfort' food is the good stuff, your head wants cause you know it tastes good and makes you feel like you've 'come home' in a way whereas eating healthy mentally you think your starving yourself and eating leafy greens. Too many years on fad diets and the wrong path so to speak. It's all a mind game though, as you can eat a ton of foods that are perfectly healthy for you and never touch a salad. It's just a need to change your perspective and make the healthy foods your NEW comfort foods, that is where the battle is! I loved soup in a homemade bread bowl, homemade mac and cheese, spaghetti, lasagna, if it was pasta or bread it gave me comfort. :p Now I don't eat bread, and most of the 'pasta' I try are vegetable pastas like zucchini spaghetti or squash fettuccine. As far as starving, most of those feelings come from dehydration. If you'll drink at least 8 oz. of water when you feel like your starving, 9 times out of 10 you'll get rid of the feeling. If you are still hungry, eat! Just make good choices! :)

It is hard, I know, I feel like I am hungry alot, but figured out I'm just bored, if I am busy all day I don't even think about eating, and the more water I drink the better, sometimes I jump on the treadmill when I'm hungry and in a half hour if I'm still hungry, then you need to think of a more healthy snack with protein in it, maybe think about that while you exercise or not, lol maybe think about what needs done around the house and focus on that when you get off the treadmill, you can do this
