Im Amy and pre-op. My surgery is January 16 th 2018, I am mixed on it and going through with it for my little boy that needs me. I have never been successful with loosing and keeping it off or even a healthy weight before because it has been used as a " high" and so it is getting an enemy gone that I have depended on as a distraction for decades. It is scary in a way yes. Im concerned more for the pain afterwards because I have a recurrant hernia that has already been repaired twice. This may be a double surgery and I am just worried for afterwards. I need to do something and I have never done this before. Hi everyone!

I experienced gas pain more so than incision pain. I think that went away day three or four. Then it was just plain itchy. I had to try so hard not to scratch anywhere on my belly, cause I would find myself chasing the itch. I hear different things about the pain but the encouraging thing is there's something for it. Meds, walking, liquid diet. Etc. So don't be too worried. I hope this helps.

Hello Amy, I'm Erica i'm new to this account. meaning about 30 mins since i have created the account . however i have some how found your post and I remember when i was in your shoes. I had my surgery 9/13/16. i was s beyond scared and also did it because of my daughter and how unhappy i was with myself. I personally had the sleeve. Which was a success in my eyes. I had the surgery at 930 am and by 130 pm i was already walking around the hospital. i did have a little discomfort when i would lay down on my left side but that was because that's the area they have removed my stomach from. it is not a major pain. don't be scared you are going to be very happy with the surgery its like a second chance at life.. and you will be amaze at how your mood is going to change and how happy you're going to find yourself.

I didn't have that much pain and the meds did help with that I don't even think I finished my pain meds, you would think it would be worse than it is, I had my gall bladder out a few years before and that hurt worse, and I didn't have any gas pain, I know some do but I got lucky and hopefully you will too, and your little boy will benefit from you having surgery, good luck

Welcome! I'm Lori. Everybody's journey is so different. I watched so many YouTube videos with WLS stories. Most said they experienced very little pain, mostly discomfort. I had bypass surgery and my pain was pretty bad. I'm saying this not to scare you , but so that you understand you may have some real pain, not just discomfort. Don't worry they give you liquid pain medicine. At the end of the day, it was worth it! Good luck with everything!!

o you remember what the liquid pain med was and was that for after you went home too?

I'm feeling so much better these days. It did take close to three months to recover though. I thought that I would be better much sooner then that. But again everyone's recovery is so different. The medicine I was prescribed was liquid hydrocodone. I was on it for 2 weeks, but experienced pain far past that. I asked my surgeon about it and he said that pain was from the side where most of the surgery took place. Five months out and 80 pounds lighter, I feel so relieved. Your surgery is a week from today! I know you're probably going through every emotion in the book, as we all did. Good luck to you and keep in touch!

I thought the bypass would be harder on the body, but it wasn't, I had very little pain afterwards the pain meds took care of it. And now I'm feeling great, I had more pain giving birth to my children than this surgery lol

You should get a prescription for liquid Tylenol with hydrocodone if you aren't allergic to it. If you are, they should prescribe you something you'll be able to cope with better. Everyone is a little different on pain tolerance. I hope you don't end up hurting too much! I also hope your surgery went well and that you are on the relatively painless road to recovery! :)

After surgery you should no longer take anything with ibuprofen. That can cause serious health issues, including ulcers. I tried to take my pain medicine mostly at night. If you get up and move around, it really helps.
