A scouting trip more than a vacation, as such

I've been thinking about relocating to Costa Rica for a long time. Long enough that the time has come to go and actually spend some time there, look around and see where I might fit in best.

When I first mentioned it to my son, he surprised the heck out of me when he said he's been thinking the same thing! He won't be coming right away, though. His lady wants to finish college stateside. I won't wait for him. Or maybe I will be waiting for him . . . there in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is a small country, roughly 200 by 70 miles. I already know I don't want to be on either coast; beautiful but too hot. I already have the hot part where I am now and I've had enough of that to last me this lifetime and at least one other. I almost went earlier this summer, but then it looked like I might be able to schedule my wls. Naturally, I changed my plans to have wls. When I didn't make that happen, I decided I can't "wait" anymore. Seems like I've been "waiting" for something or someone most of my life. I'm tired of waiting. Right now, I'm looking at the first of the year, but am "waiting" -- once again -- to put my house in order (including some repairs and such) before I go.

So far, I've only seen pictures and talked to many people who have visited there, or moved there and returned, and some ex-pats who are living there now.

I wanna go see!!!

Costa Rica is wonderful. We went there for our 30th wedding anniversary and were able to stay 2-1/2 weeks. I understand it is very cheap to live there, relative to the US. The people are wonderful and friendly and the food is very healthy. Lots of fresh veggies and fish.

30 years? Wow. Congratulations.

You certainly chose a beautiful place to travel to for your anniversary trip. Did you stay in the Central Valley or on one of the Coasts?

We first did a guided tour that went all over the country, then did a week and a half on the Pacific coast where we didn't go any farther than the pool. Did do some fishing too and caught a huge yellow fin tuna that the chef at the hotel prepared for us. Sadly, there was no way to take any of the fish home.
