Vitamin question very confused...

When I was released they gave me a paper that I should take 1 iron tablet. Pro care sent me the nascobal package. The iron pill bottle says to take 3 tablets once a day. A 30 day supply is 90 tablets. Sounds right. Just confused.

Call your surgeon's office. Have the bottle of iron pills handy when you call to give them the amount of iron in each iron pill. The iron pills the hospital had probably had more iron in it.

Good Luck,

Cheyenne

Yes stay close to the surgeon and your nutritionist.

They will bring good advice to the table. I would have thought they would have prepared you for all this.

Today, I takes a bariatric supplement provided by Bariatric advantage.

My surgeon's office ran blood tests every 90 days during the first year to make sure everything was OK.

You cannot allow yourself to end up with deficiencies.

Best wishes,

Ralph

I had my bypass surgery 8 years ago. I have religiously taken my BMI vitamins. I have run out I am wondering if there is drug store multi vitamin I can take rather than the expensive BMI vitamins.

You can say that again. Dont let yourself get deficient or you will be sorry.

I was told Centrum Vitamins were fine to take by my surgeon. I haven't had any problems with them and feel great and my blood tests come back text book perfect.

I laughed when I read that you said you were "released." LOL Gotta see the humor in some of these things sometimes and just relax. You have done incredibly well with your weight loss. What do you think helped you along the most? (Besides the surgery?) I am planning to have the sleeve sometime within the next 6-8 weeks. I am on the fence about gastric bypass. Still undecided. Thanks for any advice you can offer. Bonnie

Of course along with 2 Centrum a day I also take Vitamin B12, B6, D3, Calcium, Niacin, COQ10, Vitamin C, Fish Oil (all from Wal-Mart) their vitamins are fresh they do a big business.
Wondering if I should start stocking up on vitamins and supplements prior to surgery, when I can get good deals, or just wait and see what my surgeon says I need. Aren't some of these just mandatory for everyone? I'm not having surgery for another 6-8 weeks, hopefully and just trying to plan. Thanks Cheyenne.

Welcome to a lifetime of confusion. I had my gastric bypass 21 years ago and that was before they knew as much as they know now about nutrition. I wish that I had been able to have a different procedure because your life will never be the same again after this bypass I am now gluten intolerant lactose intolerant sugar intolerant soy intolerant and I pretty much live the Paleo Diet. So now I'm trying to completely eliminate grain and every meal is a new experience. So you have a lot of things to be confused about that's for sure do what your doctor says and go see a nutritionist because I can tell you an awful lot as well. Good luck

If I were you I would not stock up on vitamins because some are more tolerable than others it would be a shame to stock up on vitamins that you can take. Tablets are not the best choice because you're having a bypass you can actually half a tablet without it ever being absorbed. Your best bet is going to be a liquid vitamins or something with a very thin capsule that melts quickly or you can open the capsules up and throw it into your protein shakes. A lot of things you eat or not going to be absorbed in that include your vitamins too
