do you need help at home after a laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery?

I didn't . But everyone is different. I had very little pain, & only took ibuprofen. I was in the hospital overnight after the laparoscopic VSG .
The worst part for me was drinking the clear liquid protein for one week. Once I switched to full liquids, it was better.
It has been almost 5 years & I lost 202 pounds & had plastic surgery for the excess skin.
From size 32-34 to 10-12!

What is clear liquid protein?

I had a really easy time of it so my mom actually only stayed over one night after I was home, but don't try to do laundry or sweep or stuff like that and get an abdominal binder for sure!
Where do you get an abdominal binder? How long do you wear it?

I am wondering the same thing. I have a two and a half year old at home with me and I am scared to be left alone with him after surgery.

After an overnight stay, my doc wants me up and down walking very short distance and then increasing it. My surgery is scheduled for the 18th, once I've gone through it, I will try to remember to post my post op experience.

Although I ended up spending two nights in the hospital (the additional night was because I was having problems urinating (sorry for the TMI), I was up and walking the next day. I even made it up the two flights of stairs once I got home with little or no assistance.

Hello,

My experience is limited, however I just had the sleeve surgery on Thursday. I was happy my husband was home with me for the first couple of days. He went back to work today, Monday.

While I'm doing well, I can't lift more than 10 lbs. That includes pounds of pressure, like opening a low heavy drawer that sticks. He helped me with that. He carried the laundry downstairs for me. I wanted to do the laundry though, it felt good. I am walking around, and the more I move, the more the gas comes out. I was outdoors most of the day yesterday. Walking around the yard, then went to the park with hubby and pups. So 3 days out I was much improved. I'd be cautious about being alone with a baby though. If the baby/toddler falls and needs help, you can't lift that much weight for several weeks.

My surgeon prescribed Tylenol with Codeine for pain, and it's true, you probably will only use it for the first day or so. I read someone took Ibuprofen and I am shocked. That is an anticoagulant and can be dangerous after surgery.
I question wrapping something around my incision site without talking with the doctor. I didn't try it, and think it would put pressure on the incisions. I appreciate loose clothing now. My stomach is swollen, can't wait to watch it go down as it heals.

Best of luck!

I am new also. Looking to have the sleeve surgery in Dec. I have an 11yr old. my husband works tons of hours. I also did my local support group and one lady sticks out in my mind that has not lost much and has had a lot of issues.

My husband took off on the Friday I came home, was home on Sat and Sunday and it was nice having him to walk around the neighborhood with. He also scrambled me an egg, so it made me feel good, but I could have done it. I really didn't need any help. He is still lifting heavy things. This Thursday will be three weeks, and I'm not supposed to lift for six weeeks, but so far so good.

Healing is going along very good and on track. We went out on three hikes for Thanksgiving weekend, one was a good 4 mile hike with a lot of uphill, so I think its true that the quicker you get moving, the easier it is to keep moving.

I'm new. My pre-op starts on the 10th. The closer i get the more anxious i feel. I want to do everything i can on my par to insure all goes well.
What are some suggestions for the pre-op liquids.

Hello Brenda. Congratulations. I used N.Y. Bariatric shakes for my liquid diet. It is the bariatric surgical group that my surgeon is in. They have an Amazon store. I heard there were less expensive things at GNC, but I liked what I had. I bought a tub of chocolate, vanilla and banana. I also bought orange extract and was able to make cream cycle flavor, and I bought sugar free peanut butter powder and I love banana peanut butter. The chocolate was good with it too. I lost 12 pounds on my two week liquid diet and was surprised how easy it was to stick to. The meal replacement shakes really were full of protein and filling.

Best of luck to you. I know its such an exciting time !!!

I used premier protien shakes from Costco. 30g protien 1g sugar. Taste good. I was also allowed light lunches and dinners full of lean protien and veggies. I lost 10#. Full liquid diet last 3 days. Protien shakes, broth, sugar free jello.
