Pending surgery on Jan 24

I'm getting ready to have gastric sleeve done on Jan 24th. How bad is the hair loss & what can be done to help with it?
Wish you the best today with your surgery. Please let us know how you make out. The docs said something about hair loss is a possible. But said need to take the complete vitamins and to make sure I take in the amount of protein and should be good.

Well made it through the surgery fine on Monday. What a day though. It was not as bad as I expected. Went home on Tuesday in the early evening. Am pretty sore, but that is much better today. No worse than giving birth as far as soreness. Getting enough fluids in is a full time job though. I have been using Premier protein drinks, and Bariactric Advantage protein products, they seem to be very good, not bad tasting at all. I am glad I did this. My scales today show me 5 pounds down already. One thing I wish I had understood better getting ready for the surgery was to practice sipping my proteins and fluids, I think it would have made the past few days smoother going.

So glad to hear surgery went well. Getting enough fluids in can be difficult. Don't forget that your shake counts as a fluid. Also sugar free popsicles and sugar free Jello count as 4 oz each. Congrats on the weight loss. You have a great start.

Congratulations on getting your surgery. I had the sleeve done on 11/10/16 and I haven't experienced hair loss. I've been really good about taking my vitamins, protein intake and staying hydrated though. I'm sure that is all helping.

Thanks for the encouragement, it helps a lot. Today there is not much pain at all, just some soreness. Cooked for family yesterday, was not tempted to eat a thing, I was surprised that cooking did not bother me. Dear s.o. was very happy to have some " real food ". The family is in for some significant changes too. They will be progressing to healthier meals as I transition through this process. This they do not know yet, small steps, small steps.

Biotin helps a lot. I had taken it in the soft gel form as opposed to the hard white tablets. I would take 5000 mg per day. As long as you keep your protein intake to the required amount, you shouldn't have too many issues with hair loss either. If you do lose hair, it's only temporary and will come back sooner than later, but you will not have an obvious amount taken. As I said, Biotin helps a lot!

I didn't practice either, but luckily I had some small plastic cups at home, like a medicine cup, or a jello shots cup, I used them to sip my shakes and water, if you have any cups on any of your meds I would use that to drink with until you can take bigger sips
