Is there any one out there that will share their experience with me on meeting the Medicare requirments..and how the surgery went for them at the age of 60..plus? I go for my first consultation in a few days and am a bit nervous. I have done a lot of research, but, any additional insight would certaintly help. :)

Hi, I don't know about the Medicare requirements as I have an HMO plan through my employer. When I had these questions regarding my own insurance plan I called the doctor's office and spoke with his office staff. They know the details of the different plans and what is covered or if there are requirements to be completed first. If the staff don't have this answer they should be able to tell you who to contact for the details you need.

I'm not over 60, but on Medicare due to Diability. A lot of people are required to meet with a nutrionist for 6 months before surgery. I did not and was told that this is because Medicare does not require it. The only requirements I had to go through were ones required by my doctor. Example, psych evaluation. Hope this helps you.

Glad to hear you're doing it too I am 67 Apr 1. I am no on Medicare because I am still on my husband's insurance, but when trying to decide whether or not to change to Medicare, my Drs office said that Medicare covers it. You can call Medicare and ask??? about it . There are requirements like BMI, comorbidities etc.

Neither am i over 60, but I too am on medicare due to disabilities. I was told that I needed to be supervised on a diet for six months but not to see a nutritionist. I think with all the paperwork I filled out somethings were eliminated. I will most likely be done with all appointments in June. Maybe the medicare handbook might shed some light. I'll look it up.

I am 62 and had surgery Jan. 10th. Best decision I have ever made, other than marrying my husband. HA! I feel so much better about myself since losing 57 lbs. Still have 63 to go but I am about 1/2 way. Went through a bunch of shirts this morning that didn't fit for the last 4-5 years and they all fit now. It's like a whole new wardrobe. Had to order a dress for our granddaughter's 8th grade graduation so I ordered a 14/16 (womens) figuring it would fit by May. When it came, I tried it on and it fits now. I ordered another dress today for the dinner the night before graduation and I got a misses size XL, NOT A PLUS SIZE. I looked at it in the store and it should fit. It was $30 cheaper on-line so I ordered it. I am so happy. My goal is to lose another 15-20 lbs. before we go on vacation May 20th. I should be able to do it.
