I can't wait!....

Hello everyone. I read through all these posts daily, and am so impatient to get all the testing done and get my surgery scheduled. At this point, the soonest is probably in July. Hopefully no later anyway. Right now I am trying to break bad habits and give up what I know I can't have after surgery, like diet coke. That's been almost a staple in my life for years, but its gone now.

I know I need to get exercising regularly, but mannnn its the hardest thing I ever tried to make myself to do. I do try to go walk through Walmart when I am able to, and that's a pretty big place, or Sam's club. That helps, but I know I really need to do more. All these posts from everyone gives me so much hope and great information. I was planning to go for the sleeve, but decided the gastric bypass was better for me. I like the thought of the dumping to keep me accountable for what I put in my mouth. I can easily go grocery shopping and pass up all the junk food and goodies, but if my partner sets a bag of cookies or something in front of me, I am done. This will keep me in check and I am thankful for it.

Congratulations to all of you for all your progress in your new life journeys. Reading your posts is so encouraging.

Get starting on the exercise is the hard part.. Try and find a way to make a routine in your day where you go for a walk... I had to force myself at first and now its part of my day, I don't even think about it any more. The sweets was a hard thing before surgery I had a wicked sweet tooth, But now I don't even care about it... Once in a while I'll see something to trigger my want for something sweet but the thought of the dumping keeps me in check... As far as soda I can relate I drank over a 2 liter a day... Now its either water or crystal lite(walmart brand (cheaper)). Let your partner they will sabotage you if they keep doing that and you really need there support.
Time will go quick. soon it will be your day and it will seem like it flew by even though before surgery it felt like time stood still.... Best of luck.... Keep working on your goal and the new you.....

How I gave up diet pop was limiting it to no more then a 12 oz can every two days and only drinking that with lots of ice. While you're doing that, start integrating more water and I bet you hardly miss pop. For me giving up good coffee is what is still giving me fits (I live in the Pacific Northwest and coffee is a way of life up here). With a bit over a month to surgery I am down quite a bit, but have not shut the coffee door yet. I doing the one cup in the morning with the idea of giving it up totally by the middle of May. Hopefully it will go like the pop did, but with the coffee is the caffeine and that is going to be the toughest of all. I know at a point after surgery I will be able to drink small amounts of coffee, but hopefully I will be past the craving soon. Another tough thing was learning to not drink anything during meals.

As far as walking, just start doing things like parking farther away from places you go. That is a way to increase your walking without even thinking about it. You idea of walking the isles at a large store is a great idea. As far as deliberate walking, remember if you want to get a good 30 minutes of walking a day, you can break it up into a few times if you like. If you start waking with a goal of keeping a good pace for 10 to 15 minutes, you will be surprised how quickly that goes by, you will end up pushing yourself a bit more and soon you will be walking 30 or even 40 minutes at a stretch. the thing to remember is just walk. If you only make it 10 minutes today then no worries, you walked and got some blood flowing to your muscles.

Good luck on your journey
