Exercise with a hernia

Hi all,
I ended up with some major complications in surgery and as a result had to have a full abdominal open cut. It resulted in a hernia about the size of a football.
Anyone have any recommended exercises if they also had/have a hernia? I can't lift anything. Running, fast walking hurts. I am cleared to ride a stationary bike but the one I have is a recumbent and my knees sometimes hit my abdomen.
Thanks!

I have only been doing walking after my surgery and hernia repair and can't think of other exercises that would be gentler. But I know that an abdominal binder would be helpful. Check with your doctor first, but if you have an abdominal binder it will support your abdomen and make it easier to walk. I didn't use one after my surgery so I had to brace my stomach with my arms and that helped for me. I hope you find something that works for you. Once your incision has fully healed you could try swimming, or just walking in water, but don't do that while your wound is healing because of the risk of infection.

Thank you. I am walking some, but my doctor won't do the repair until I have 50% or more of my excess weight off. I'm at 20% now. I do have a binder and it helps somewhat. Guess I'll just have to suck it up and walk through the pain

Do you have any pain meds that you could take before walking? That would make it easier for you also. I am glad that you have a binder already, I have seen how they help others who use them. I never had one myself though.

My doctor has been very understanding with the pain meds. Even though I am 2 months post surgery because of the hernia he will still prescribe some. I am trying to wean off to just 1 a day, so I usually take one when I am home for work. I do walk laps in my house but even with the pill it is painful.
Without some additional exercise I have plateaued again.
It is very frustrating.

I am having my third surgery on a hernia, removing the old mesh and putting in new mesh, and taking some stomach muscle to support my hernia, my surgery is on 7/24/17.

Walking is not comfortable, standing...etc..hernia is wrapped around 3 loops of intestines and compressing my sigmoid..living on miralax, metamucil small amount, and milk of mag...so any advice will be greatly appreciated...plus I'm trying to learn before I agree for real on this...since after I heal and lose I have the major hernia repair..surgery..like ICU type
