H2O Exercise

So it has been a full month now, of 5 days a week at the gym, walking on an underwater treadmill. I started off at a turtle pace, which took me 45 minutes to walk a full mile. I've been inching my way up in mph and am able to walk that same mile now in 25 minutes! I am feeling better and better everyday, I have more energy and I sleep soundly! I have had a few days where I was slightly sore, but nothing in comparison to what it would be like if I were to use a land treadmill. Yesterday I did 30 minutes on the treadmill going a bit over the mile and then I did my first every aqua Zumba class. Can I just say WHEW! The treadmill definitely worked my lower half but that aqua Zumba is all upper body! I thought perhaps my arms would fall off and I had no idea how I was supposed to reattach them! It is definitely a workout! They are going to be adding a water yoga type class next month, and for the first time in my life I'm excited about exercise. :) I totally recommend this type of exercise to everyone if it is possible in your area, or at the very least, I hope your able to find something you like to keep things moving along your journey. :)

Good job!!! I don't where you all find these underwater treadmills so I have to use a regular one. Starting back at the gym was VERY difficult for me, i had ZERO energy. I've had a hard time getting in enough protein, but after 3 weeks I'm finally feeling better. I'm a flat lander (Texas) but am working in Utah and the altitude is killing me, I can't seem to get any air.

So far so good, I still highly recommend water exercise of any kind! I've lost 100 lbs. by dancing in the water 4 days a week and walking on an underwater treadmill 6 days a week. The water resistance is key so I've added weights to my ankles and wrists twice a week to include strength training into my routine. I work out with people that just had surgery to a hip, knee, leg and they love it as it leaves no soreness and helps them sleep, water workouts are exhausting, in such a good way! I burn 1200 calories in an hour and hit my steps for the day walking 2 miles, best of all, I have no soreness after I do it. The only time I've encountered soreness in this type of exercise is when I do high steps in the water to stretch my legs and work my knees, and the soreness is actually in my belly area that gets stretched doing the exercise, but it is manageable soreness that doesn't bother for long. I hope many of you find something you love to get you moving and going and just enjoying life again! Best wishes! :)

I had the chance to try water Zumba in Washington state while visiting my sister. I loved it! I love being in the water - seems more like fun than exercise! Unfortunately, I live in a small town in Southern Colorado so there is no such thing here. I do want to get into some water aerobics when I can.

Great job! I was thinking on getting a YMCA membership after the surgery. I just need to get up there after work. I work 7:30-5pm M-F. I do my weights now 2 days a week and weekends. I can't wait to feel better and even look better.
My Joint reconditioning class at the Y is at 8:30 a.m. but the pool is open as early as 5:30 a.m. for open swimming. I strongly recommend it!

I walked after surgery through my neighborhood. I rode my bike a few days a week also. When the weather changed these activities were not an option. I took swimming lesson and now swim three days a week. I found a water jogging class offered at the pool, one night a week. I still need to work on my timing and my stamina but swimming has a been a great winter activity. Our local high school has open swim for Free a couple days a week. The gym I belong to also has a pool. This water activity has really been an asset to my weight loss journey.
