Greetings! Surgery + 14 days

Greetings!

I had gastric sleeve surgery 2 weeks ago, and am now looking at online support groups. This one looks good!

It took me a very long time to reach this decision, and it was probably the right choice, given my increasing health problems (knee pain, hypertension, pre-diabetes, sleep apnea, atrial fibrillation). I lost 20lb preparing for surgery and have lost another 20lb since. After a week, I was starting to feel pretty good, but now I'm struggling a bit. I've gone from hypertension to hypotension in the span of less than a week! I've also been quite fatigued. I seem to be getting enough fluids and protein, but am trying to step both up to see if it will help.

I've also gone nocturnal! I'm typing this at 3am because I couldn't sleep. Well, nobody said it would be a picnic, but I'm hoping things improve soon.

Hi Alf,
I'm five days from bypass surgery and trying to get my footing.
I have started waking up at night also. I used to sleep through anything now I wake up a couple of times during the night, not sure why.
I'm trying to adjust to the new life I'm living and its difficult right now. I still notice and crave food. I thought you lost your appetite for about a year. Since its only been five days from my surgery perhaps the adjustment will happen?
Any feedback on the first weeks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Dide

Hi Dide,
I can only comment on my very brief experience. 5 days after surgery, I was feeling pretty good, walking around OK, and the incisions were healing well. I will say that I had no interest whatsoever in food. On a couple of occasions, I went out with friends or family members to a restaurant, and they were all apologizing for eating tasty food in front of me. But I told them not to worry, I was just not hungry. So, it sounds like your experience is different from mine so far.

After about a week, though, I started doing worse, because I'm just not managing to get enough protein/vitamins/fluids into myself. I've been fatigued, dizzy, out of breath, and my legs have been cramping up. I just started on soft solids today, and I'm hoping that will make a difference.

Hi Al f

I see that you have already lost 20 lbs since surgery. Since mine I've gained five. They tell me its fluid and gas but its bumming me out. I was told to start the protein little by little each day so that by the second week half of my fluid intake is protein. Hopefully introducing soft foods will help you feel better.

Well, I managed to land myself in the hospital after developing blood clots in my legs and then fainting from low blood pressure and dehydration. I just got out yesterday and am feeling much better, except for some pain from one of the blood clots. A set-back for sure, but I feel back on track now.

So sorry to hear about your set backs. I am 4 days post surgery and trying to figure this all out as well. I hope you feel better soon. Congrats on your weight loss and hang in there.
