I had a gastric bypass in 1999 lost over 120 pounds with no regret. I am starting to gain wait slowly so I having my pouch checked and may have to have a revision or a lap band done.

Has anyone had a revision done?

Hi Sazzy,

Wow you have done so well.

Remember this is just a tool. Have you been going to support groups. I know a couple in my support group that are close to 10 years post op and one of them started to gain weight as well. What they did was go back to basics and controlled their eating and became more disciplined in tracking what they are eating and once again went back to avoiding the high caloric " junk " foods and lost the weight. You can do that still without having to go for a revision or a lap band.

Best wishes,

Ralph

I am 5 years out with some of the same issues, lost over 200 but have gained back about 40. Am working the 5 day pouch test right now to restart my pouch. Then exercise is next. What are you doing with exercise? Back to the basics is where you need to start - journal your food - list your exercise. etc etc etc

Reply to +10 years post surgery

I am +29 years "Pouch" (that failed in late 1986 and I am +27 years revision which was a "version of BPD" before my doctor finally went with RNY as his selected surgery.
I have been 175 or less since 1989 and 155 since 2010. I have problems keeping weight on which is why BPD became the surgery for super heavy weights only for most surgeons

I had the lapband and after it broke after 10 years. My Dr. sent me to a specialist in Chicago (though the specialist had never seen one broken, he was anxious to fix this) and it was re-connected without any problems (they make a fix-it kit for lap bands...I didn't know that). I've never, ever experienced any other problems with the band, and when I found myself gaining weight, I joined Weight Watchers (WW) so I could learn so better eating habits. I'm still using the "keys" and found them helpful. Here's a funny...I tried to get a job with WW and they won't hire me because the bulk of my weight loss occurred with bariatric surgery and they feel that divides my loyalty. lol. I'm loyal to both because both programs have made me into a new woman! :)
