Energy

One of the things I've seen a lot of people mention is increased energy with weight loss. So far, it's been quite the opposite for me.

I don't know if it is because of my blood pressure issues or the insomnia/anxiety/depression or what, but I have had very little energy these last few months.

My BP started to improve, but my water intake dropped for a day and my BP tanked with it. A few minutes ago I nearly collapsed in our kitchen. So now I'm laying down again.

Anybody remember phen-fen? That amazing diet that really worked that they took off the market because it caused heart valve problems? I was one of the lucky ones that got the heart valve problem. A problem that as of yet has been stable enough not to have have to do anything about. But my husband believes I'm showing the symptoms the cardiologist told us to watch for. So I'm making my follow up appointment to get my echocardiogram and see my cardiologist like a good little girl, even though I think it has nothing to do with my heart.

So my question for you is when did your energy increase? I know I'm going through a very difficult time, which makes things different for me. The insomnia/anxiety/depression alone will have a huge effect on my energy level. The battle with my low BP is definitely contributing to it.

Going on the morning dog walks is helping a lot. The exercise, fresh air, talking to neighbors and socializing is good for me.

If I'm up to it, tomorrow Jack and I will drive up the mountain and spend the day walking around playing the slot machines at the casinos.

I had a lot of energy issues for about 6 months. My NP suggested I up my protein from 60 grams to 80 grams daily. But I also have my thyroid working against me too. Since increasing my protein my energy has been better, but I won’t say I could go run a marathon. It’s just better in comparison to how I used to be. I will say though that I can still get worn down which is just an endurance issue for me since I don’t exercise.

I tried to make an appointment with my cardiologist, but unfortunately he is out on a medical leave. I talked to his nurse, who will contact him to see if she can schedule my echocardiogran and when the soonest they can see me will be, even if is with one of his partners
The last time my blood pressure did this dropping thing, he wanted to consider putting me on a pacemaker. I have failed to mention that when my BP drops, so does my
resting heart rate. I was actually hoping this time my resting heart rate was improved because of my weight but on the days that my BP improved, my resting heart rate went up with it. So I don't think it's a valve problem, but I probably do need a pacemaker. As soon as I learn more, I will let you know.

Tomorrow I see my sleep doctor, who I am praying will help me with my insomnia. Wish me luck!

My sister will be 45 in January. She had a pacemaker put in 8 years ago for an undiagnosed 3rd degree heartblock. It was pretty much emergency surgery, but we found about it 2 days after our dad died when she crashed her car because she passed out. At first they thought she passed out behind the wheel because of stress. Then she passed out a few hours later. She was allowed to go to the wake and funeral and her surgery was the afternoon of the funeral. BUT the point is, she was active military and still is! Shes doing really well, and if you do need a pacemaker it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully you’ll feel a million times better.

Aw, Kathi. I am sorry to hear that your doctor is out. It sucks to have a situation and see a new doctor for it. At least he has partners so hopefully you can get in with one of them. My aunt had to get a pacemaker and honestly, it was like night and day. She was so run down, exhausted all the time. And then she wasn't. If that is what you need, you may be very happy with the outcome. It's amazing what they can do medically now.

I hope your appt with your sleep doctor goes well and you can at least get some rest while dealing with all this. It's a lot. But your strong and will hold it down like you always do.
