Hello everyone, my name is Jennifer and I'm in the process of doing all my prep work to have gastric bypass. I'm currently 368lbs. I'm about half way through with all the medical and dietician stuff, I'm estimating surgery will be around November or December. I'm looking to educate myself some more and for support when I'm having a tough time. Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome Jennifer. You are almost exactly where I was a year ago. I was 363#. Just got approval and was waiting for pre op work. I had gastric bypass on 12/6. I am now at 246.4. I'm a little slower going because of some meds I am on, but so happy to be where I am. Feel free to ask any questions. Everyone here is great!!!

Congratulations on your weight loss! I love hearing peoples stories especially when they started off around my weight. It's so inspirational. Have you had any complications? Also, what has been the toughest part post op? Thanks for the support!

Thank you for the welcome! I guess I'm starting to want to talk more with people who have gone through bariatric surgery lately because as time goes on and surgery seems nearer I'm starting to get a little scared. Not scared of the physical surgery itself, more of the psychological effects. I want to begin to prepare for that now. Everyone is different but I'm sure a lot of people can agree that changing your relationship with food is very difficult.

Welcome Jennifer :) Congrats on your decision! I am right around 6 weeks post op surgery. I'm just now reaching your weight, having lost 40lbs in the first 50 days. That is so weird to reread... it just seems a bit unreal to me still! Anyway, welcome to the group and I hope your pre-op process goes smoothly!

Welcome, it is a little scary, but in the end it is worth it, if you weren't a little worried I would think there was something wrong, it will be alright though, think positive

I didnt realize how much I actually ate and relied on eating til I started the pre op diet monday. It is definitely a battle. The outcome will be fantastic. I know my bariatric team is concerned that my mentality will be majorly affected since I'm already psychotic. I think slightly less so because I would feel better physically. You know? I think just sometimes the matter is over the mind. For instance if you feel sick physically your gonna believe your sick. I know that this surgery (sleeve) will be a strong matter of feel good ovet my psycho self.

Welcome! I had some of the same things racing around in my mind during the pre op process but I must say post op...so far I could totally care less! My taste buds have changed drastically. So much so that most of the things I was worried about 'craving' after surgery just haven't been an issue. I agree with Tracy in that it is totally normal to be nervous beforehand, I was the same way! I do think you'll do great! Best wishes as you continue through the pre op process, I hope it goes well for you!

Welcome Jennifer! It took me about 4 months to get all the pre-testing that was required. I never even had a question the whole time if I was doing the right day, right down to 2 days before surgery. THEN I started asking myself "what the hell am I doing?". I was actually on the table being prepped for surgery and that thought crossed my mind. Now it is all done and am home recovering. Now I am really glad I went through with it, cause I know it will just get better.

I am in month 4 of 6 in the bariatric program at geisinger Danville and I am so freaked out about what can and will go wrong..I really want this surgery cuz I have been fighting obesity since a child. Emotional eating is my main issue. I'm really worried about gaining weight back after surgery and extra skin that my insurance won't cover to get removed..my mother had gastric bypass, didn't lose the weight, and 2 years later passed away from stage 4 cancer...so....

Congrats on month 4! You can do this and be successful! Also, it's a major step towards success that you know your an emotional eater! The surgery will cure that for awhile as you will not really be hungry and if you try too soon your new stomach will very willingly remind you not to over eat. I encourage you to find a safe alternative during that time to the emotional eating, and stick with it instead. It can be anything really, just be careful not to turn to anything unhealthy! If you stick to the plan you shouldn't regain any weight. Keep in mind the surgery is just a tool to use for success in your efforts to battle obesity! You can do it. Worry about the skin when it is actually an issue, which will be many months down the road of you losing weight! Best of luck on your continued journey and remember you have support here if you find you need it. :)

I was lucky and had no real complications. I was nauseaous the first couple of months, but my doctor was never really able to figure out why. The toughest part has been not giving in to old habits of eating related to my emotional eating. I eat when I'm down or not feeling well and I don't reach for healthy foods. Whatever you do, stay on track with your eating. One slip turns to many.

It's 10 days since my surgery and so far there have been no complications and I am feeling great. We drove to my daughter's home in SC a couple days ago to watch the solar eclipse. We stopped every hour or so, docs orders, and it took about 12 hours. Because we did stop so often, I felt really good when we got there instead of stiff and sore as is usually the case. We go home late Monday night, and it will be good to sleep in my own bed again. I am not sure what my weight loss is but it has to be going down. I know this sounds weird, but even though I know I can't eat and am not hungry at all, I get great pleasure in smelling good food cooking.

Thanks for the encouragement and all your postings. They really help me a lot, especially when I can relate to them. Congrats on all your weight losses everyone! You are doing great!

What did you think of the eclipse Judith? Did you make it back home ok? I'm glad you were able to travel.

I got home this morning, and immediately climbed into my bed and slept for about 3 hours. I love seeing my daughter and being with her, but there is no place like home. As for the eclipse, it was pretty much a non event for us. It was dumping rain, lightning and thunder everywhere and nothing to see. It did get dark for a bit but we couldn't see a thing. Disappointing, but what can a person do? I had my few days with my daughter and that was what I wanted more than anything else. We had great time.
