Hello everyone. My name is Amy, I am 43 years old from Northern NY and am in the pre surgery program. I'm having a very hard time finding ways to get motivated to exercise and to stick to my diet. I have addiction to food and depression, I am also the worlds worst procrastinator so it's very hard to push myself. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions, something you did that helped you? I know I'm not alone and I am eager to hear your stories and advice. Please feel free to share, and hope we can all be great assets to each other!

Hello Amy. I too am 43. I feel old, when i know I'm young. The thing that motivated me was suffering from depression might be less difficult to endure if I were to stop hearing every doc and specialist say your weight is the reason for this and that. Also, I'm tired of not having the right size pants. They tend to drop roll and slide off of me if they don't fit well. Being big makes that difficult. Basically it's a number of things adding up that finally motivated me. I don't exercise like I should but am more active than I used to be. Maybe if I continue to lose the weight I will eventually chase after a basketball again. There are so many things that I wouldn't mind doing but the weight has to come off first. I think you have it in you because you decided to reach out to a support group. That right there tells me you want this and with people by your side you will go far. I will try my best to be there for you. I lost 9.5lbs in three months. And it was encouraging to know that it's possibe. I have an app that counts my steps everyday and I am encouraged by this helping me reach the 30 min exercise goal. I keep reminding myself it doesn't have to be consecutive but 30 for the whole day. If I try to do it all at once it doesn't get done. Maybe you can find similar ways to begin your exercise. Just don't compare yourself to others. We are all in it together.

Thank you so much Carolyn. I am so glad that someone the exact same age as me was the first person to reach out. It makes things so much better knowing that we have things in common. I am putting on a Fitbit today hoping it will help motivate me to get up and go. I will be happy to help you in any way that I can, thank you again for your wonderful and positive words! Have a great day, and I will let you know if I met my goal of 5000 steps!

Amy, you are very welcome. I like your avatar pic. You look amazing and I know you will be even more amazing when you reach your goals. Step step step. You got this.

At first it is hard to get going and stay moving... But once you do and stick with it you will be happier and have more energy. I to have depression and love to eat... I had to go for a walk when I felt hungry or wanted to just munch on something... It was hard to do at first but now it is like second nature. I use to to know I had to something and stayed on the couch and figured I would do it later.... But now I hop up and get things done... I had my surgery in feb of this year... Keep in mind of your goal and how you will feel about your self when you reach it. I am so happy now I am close to my goal... Best of luck
