new to forum ( waiting for surgery date)

Yes, I am from Northford. I have just started in this journey. My Dr. is Dr. Duffy from YNHH. I have attended the seminar, gone for consult for sleep apnea test and go to nutritionist tomorrow. My BMI is only 39.something so I am kind of counting on the sleep apnea test. I have other problems, GERD, plantar faciatis, heel spurs, shin splint, lower back pain so I am basically working and resting at home. I have a wonderful husband who has taken over doing everything. I can do a little straightening up but that is about it. I had seen the nutritionist for about 4-5months in the summer without success and the Dr.'s nurse hopes to bridge that with future nutritional counseling. a problem I see is that I have put on a lot of weight since I stopped seeing her. I have AETNA insurance and they seem to want to deny EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! We'll see. Please tell me about your journey. marilyn

Come here often. We will gladly help and respond to any and all questions. I hope your Doctor is one of the "best doctors" in the state. I hope the hospital you pick is a "bariatric center of excellence". These were essential criteria for me.

Your doctor's office should also have a patient advocate that is there to answer any questions and address any concerns that you have.

I had the good fortune to have one of the best Doctors in the nation down her on Long Island.

I am sorry that I didn't see your other posts, I don't come to this site often. Right now I am waiting on the results from my sleep study. I have an apt with the surgeon on the 20th and the psych eval the next week. I am seeing my primary care this Friday so I think the documentation will be there. beside the sleep apnea which I guess I have since they put the mask on me during the night, I can only walk during the day by taping my feet, I have heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and a shin splint. I really need this surgery soon.
 
Getting closer. Got a little sidetracked when i weaned myself off 2 antidepressants without the supervision of mental health provider. Dr. thought this was dangerous and he is worried about compliance. i've had to see a new mhp for 2 visits and after that if i am still stable, he will approve me for the surgery. it has been a long road but i think that was a good way for me to prepare mentally. I did have severe extreme sleep apnea and now sleep with a cpap which really helps. i am looking forward to getting on my treadclimber this weekend - i got my new orthotics this week and the pain in my feet has literally disappeared! What a difference - i am glad i switched podiatrists! Hope you are all well and enjoying this wonderful weather.

I hope you are doing well.

Once you have the bariatric surgery the cpap machine should also become a thing of the past.

Right now, it sounds like you are doing all the right things; working closely with your doctor.

Hi Ralph,
I haven't been on this site for a while so I thought I'd drop by and say "Hello". Well, all the prep is done and my paperwork was sent to the Ins. co on Friday. Now I just wait. I've been overeating for a while now and want to get serious about losing before the surgery. I am able to walk much better but still can't exercise. I get a little exercise in - I now walk our dog since we moved and am much more active around the house but MUST make myself get on the treadclimber at least for 5 minutes at a time. I've been thinking, heck I have nice clothes that fit, I can eat what I want until the surgery, but that really isn't the best idea. I switched jobs and do a LOT of walking - it came at a good time - after I got the new orthotics otherwise I would never have been able to accept the job. It came with a nice increase so that is good. Yale gives us almost 2 weeks off between Christmas/New Years. I really hope to have my surgery before that so I can recouperate on my paid time off. From what I've read, I think two weeks will be enough... if it isn't I have plenty of sick/vacation/personal time I can take.
