Hard to believe that a whole month has gone by. This has been one of the best decisions of my life. I'm so much more alive. More energy. I'm able to get in all nutrition and I'm getting 10,000 plus steps in on most days.
I hope the rest of you are doing well. Any pre sleeve surgery peeps that have any questions please reach out to me. Ask anything you are curious about and I will gladly share my journey with you.

Congratulations. I am six weeks post op with RNY gastric bypass because of diabetes. Doing great and off all meds for now. It is wonderful going thru the day with out being hungry.

I will hit my one month on Friday! This has been such a great journey so far! I had to go get clothes from storage because all my old ones are so big! I'm working on getting my calories up which is hard because I don't go on to pureed until Friday. But slowly I'm progressing towards my ideal macros.

    Hi Jackie,

Thanks for posting. I am so happy for you that you are feeling great and feeling good. I am pre sleeve surgery and filled with questions. For example, were you on a liquid diet pre surgery and if so, how long? I have heard some folks were and had struggled a bit there. Can you talk about eating pre and post surgery so far...Also, immediately after surgery were you in a lot of pain? I have heard that the gas pain is really uncomfortable and although some folks were prescribed stuff, most report that walking did the trick. Again, thanks for sharing!

    Lynn

I'm happy to share. I had a specific diet to follow 2 weeks pre op. It was basically
    Breakfast:protein shake
    Snack optional; Fruit or shake
Lunch: protein & vegetable (frozen dinner options were available)
    Snack optional: Fruit or shake
    Dinner: same as lunch
The day before surgery was clear liquids.
All programs seem to have different plans.
I had discomfort mainly in my upper back post op. Walk walk, walk
. I had scheduled pain med in the hospital (1 day). Then my Dr recommended ibuprofen 3 times a day my first 2 days home. I did take the pain medicine at night the first couple nights home.
I was able to sleep in bed and on my side right off .
Post op diet was full liquids and clear liquids until my post op visit on day 9.
My plan has no pureed phase I could start "real" food day 10. It is slow adding foods back. Ricotta Bake is a must. I log everything on my fitness pal. It helps to be able to see the nutrients you're getting.
I hope this is helpful. Do you have Facebook? I'm open with my journey and post regularly

In my program I had the RNY gastric bypass, my Dr won't allow ibuprofen, Advil, alvee for a very long time. And started real food on six to eight weeks post-op. I just started real food. But not as easy as you would think. So I still have my shakes to make sure I get my protein in. And figuring out how much to eat so don't stretch out the small stomach. I usually can only eat about a tablespoon and I am full.

I could only have ibuprofen for 2 days now not allowed. There are days I miss it. I still have a shake on most days nut that is something I have done for years pre surgery. Keep up the good work.

I will be 1 month post op next week. It's been tough for me. Started at 293. Had clear liquids for 10 days pre op, and about 10 days post op. Went for my first post op visit and was 269. I was so happy. On soft foods now and have my second follow up next week.
I'm so tired and can't seem to kick this depression. I miss food. I try to get out and walk. I'm sitting here all day watching TV. Maybe it will get better once I go back to work.

For me being active is key. I have been getting my 10,000 steps on almost every day since one week post op. It's a whole new way of life for me..
I'm back to work and keeping busy

Did you have a hard time at first? I'm having this nagging pain in my left side at one of my incision sites. I mentioned it to my doc at my post op appointment. He said that is the site where my stomach was removed. It doesn't seem to be getting any better

    Your
Your doctor's office should have a nutritionist on site that should give you a detailed plan on what you should eat at different stages. Please bring this up to them!
