Most of my family supports me doing the by-pass but my fiancee is not. He had an Aunt die from complications of a weightloss surgery. I don't know how to calm his fears. Please help me!

How long ago did his aunt have surgery? Things have come so far along in just the last 5 years.
What pre-existing medical conditions did she have? This is why the majority of Bariatric Specialist make it a hard fast rule to have multiple specialty medical testing done to help rule out and or be prepared for the potential of surgical related complications. As an example on my EKG I have a hereditary right bundle branch block which in most people would be indicative of a past heart attack. For me it is a hereditary issue that presents no issues for me or with my heart. I was required to have a Heart Cath done before my surgeon would touch me. My heart Cath results came back perfect, no heart damage, no heart attack, no arterial disease, just a perfect heart. I was also required to wait for my esophageal biopsy to come back showing that I did NOT have esophageal cancer due to esophageal scarring as a result of esophageal dysphagia(another hereditary issue).
If your fiancée is worried make sure to take him to your appointments, include him in support group meetings (he can meet other spouses, partners, family members and people who have had the surgery) and all of the education that you may be required to have prior to your surgery.
Any surgery carries the potential for life altering complications and death...

Great news my fiancee is supporting me and said he would walk with me and eat better while I prove to the insurance in the next 6 months that Im committed to being healthy! Yeah!

Also, see if there is a support group through your local hospital where he can see the results of the surgeons that you will be using. Sometimes seeing how many people do great helps him to understand that these surgeries are not all bad!
