Post-op, how many days on liquids?

First 2 weeks, full liquid. Next 2 weeks pureed. Next 2 weeks soft foods. Then regular foods.

However with me, I took longer to transistion becuase I wasn't ready, and didn't feel comfortable. So it took me a few months to actually eat regular food. Even 4 months in, I still mainly only eat 4 greek yogurts and 3 protein shakes a day. And it works for me. Sometimes I will have a salad. But I don't even eat it with chicken anymore, as it's just too much.

VSG is on Jan. 20. My team says day 1 clear liquids, day 2 protein shakes, then on day 3 start full liquids until day 17. Is this similar to others of you who had surgery?
I just pulled my paperwork... My program was:

Nothing the day of surgery (no water, very thirsty)
  • Post-op days 1-3: clear liquids
  • Post-op days 4-7: full liquids
  • Post-op days 8-36: pureed foods (& begin bariatric chewable vitamins)
  • Post-op day 37: began solid foods, NO dense meat, NO raw veggies (including salads), NO bread/rice/pasta
  • Post-op day 90: start introducing raw veggies, can try some bread/pasta/rice (took me until month 6 to tolerate the carbs)
  • No steak for 6 months
All surgeons have their own program so make sure to follow yours'!!!

Thanks. I keep thinking about your upcoming surgery - the enormity of it. Wishing you good outcome.

Like Brenda said, every program is different. I have my information here at my desk at work so I can look at it to remind myself what I can and cannot eat as I go along. Here is mine:

  • Day 1: Clear liquids
  • Day 2 -3: pureed foods, no vitamins
  • Day 4 - week 4: pureed foods w/vitamins
  • Weeks 5-8: soft/chopped foods
  • Week 9: start regular foods
Through each of those stages I have a list of foods that I am allowed to eat. I couldn't add raw veggies until week 9. I was just able to add grapes when I started week 16. I can't eat celery until month 7. Random little things like that.

Yea mine was closes to Brenda’s. But I took my time going from one phase to the other.
I’m for month in on regular food, but once or twice a week I will have cream soup.
