Hi I'm preparing myself for surgery on May 23 or June 6. I just saw my Provider that is over the Weight Management Program and he explains everything the way that I need to hear information and with the information provided; I've been studying it most of the day. It is pretty exciting that I am transitioning my weight to a healthy one. It's great having support on-line and going to sessions that are held at our local hospital. I agree with the response to eating favorites just before starting the liquid diet at times it will complicate things. Today was a success for me; one day at a time and asking GOD to give me the discipline I am needing daily. I live in Illinois and I plan on coming on this site a needed; perhaps a couple times per week. Thanks for sharing and I will be a listening ear to whomever wants to reach out because I know you are here for me.

I don't think the weight loss would stop at this weight but it probably will slow down. Before my surgery I told the Dr. that I wanted to get down to 120-130 because according to the height/weight charts, that is where my average weight should be. I was told that at that weight I would be too skinny and would look sick. He also asked me if I would only be happy if I reached that goal. I said that ultimately that is where I want to be, but I would be happy with reaching 160-170 lbs. He told me that the 160 lb range should be my goal, that way I won't get discouraged and give up. I think that is why people are given a higher weight to use as their target goal. I think it is also about 100 lbs from the original weight which is what is reasonable to achieve within a year. I also figured for myself that the weight is just a number, my real goal is to be able to wear a pair of jeans I wore when I was in my early 20's (Australian size 12, not sure of the American equivilent). I know that this is acheivable for me, and I looked healthy when I last wore them. Also by having these jeans as my goal, I would know if the weight starts to come back as they would become tighter on me.

I don't seem to get hungry anymore. I don't think about food all the time like I used to, either. It's a good thing. Some days I don't want to eat. Nothing sounds good. I do eat or at least drink a protein shake, tho.

After weight loss surgery...most people hit a plateau. The good news is there are many things you can do to break the plateau. Don't worry about that now, cross that bridge when it comes. Take this advice from someone that was 450 pounds and is now 150 pounds, seventeen years later.

My surgery is on 3/22/17 and I just had to adjust my goal weight up. I did this because it's 80% of what I will probably lose after surgery (hopefully) and in line with what my doctor believes is a good goal. Anything less that it will be my private goal. There are so many inspiring success stories here that I know all is possible with commitment and focused work.

    All the best!

Do you have comorbidities? I can't imagine that the Dr. can't pull this off with the insurance company. Keep plugging away. I am going to pray about that, because I know what that would have done to me.

This is not legal advise I'm giving you, because I'm not a attorney. I think you might want to find out who governs the insurance companies in your state. In my State it is called the Department of Banking and Commission. If you feel that you are not being treated fairly and your doctor has deem your surgery to be medically necessary. You might want to give them a call. I hope this helps you. Good Luck

I don't understand how they can say it was covered and now not covered. Is it because perhaps you didn't show enough weight loss while waiting for the surgery? I am super lucky, none of my pre-op testing or surgery cost me anything since I work for a large health care system.... everything was covered 100% (except a few $40 copays) as long as I had everything done in one of our hospitals. The follow-ups are also covered. Good luck.

My surgery is scheduled for 03/28/2017. I set my goal weight on my first visit and my doctor said I could achieve it. I was shocked at first when he said that but then extremely happy especially considering my goal weight is almost 200 lbs from my orginal starting weight. I keep seeing so many accomplishments of individuals on here and I'm just like wow they look amazing. I wish any of you having the surgery within the next week or so the best of luck and quick recovery and for the other that I see that are scheduled even further out just keep pushing and make sure to maintain or lower your weight along the way so your insurance can't deny you. Good luck everyone and best wishes.

Sorry I have not been active lately, I was getting email alerts when people would comment on this thread, then the emails stopped stopped, so I decided to come back on and see if this thread was still active...found out it is very active! Glad to hear the stories from people either preparing or coming out of surgery. On my story, we have finalized that the insurance will not cover it for sure, battled them long enough. Dr. office worked with all the components of the surgery and got them to agree to a set price and contract so I would know my maximum cost. We all signed that contract and like I said before, I will continue on. My surgery date is now set for a date that I picked, June 19 (day after fathers day...lol). I am back in the exercise program that I was involved in (this is my 3rd round with them), and the cool thing is, I already went through the liquid diet so I already know what it will be like to do it again (and I get to have my "last meal" again!!). Spirits are still up and still feeling good about it all...The cost is a real bummer, but small price to pay to having a better life with my kids.

Weight is my only real problem, I'm done spending hours on the phone with insurance, time to move forward, have a new date and am doing the self pay thing the Dr. office offered. Small hurdle for a lifetime of rewards!

    Great attitude!!!
I had to pay for my surgery, because insurance companies didn't cover weight loss surgery during that time. You are right it is a small hurdle for a lifetime of rewards!!!

    Good Luck
