2nd day of pre op diet

I was told I couldn't take my fluid medication. I explained to them, I swell really bad with out it. I am on the liquid diet for 7 days prior to surgery, I have done good but, I am going into my 3rd day without my meds and I am so swollen it hurts. I have gained 3 pounds of fluid. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't wear my rings or shoes right now. I drink a lot of water should I stop? Not sure what to do?

Always check with your doctor, & recheck if you don't get the answer you need. Can you take your meds in pill form, maybe crushing them up? It shouldn't even be an issue with pre-surgery. I don't know why they told you that (unless your liquid medicine is Johnny Walker Red;)). Your surgery is coming right up & I would think they'd cancel if you're retaining so much water & in such pain. You really need to get this straightened out. It's your body & it's your choice. You should demand (if necessary) to know their reasoning. And keep finding out everything you can about each of their decisions. Don't do something just because someone tells you to. Have a discussion. You are obviously having horrible side effects & they may not be aware that this could have happened. Go, Bunnyrabbit! call them!

Thank you dianeseattle for responding to my post. I am on lasix to help get rid of the fluid my body holds. I have been on them for 15 years. My Doc told me it's going to be hardenough for me to keep my body hidrated after surgery and he doesn't want me taking them before surgery because they make you loose potasium which I take a potasium supplement. I work in the same building he is so if I swell like i did yesterday I will go see him. Thanks again. Have a Blessed day!
