6 Days and a wake till launch

7 Days and a wake till launch

I spoke to my patient advocate today and found out that I am the first, LOL, case of the day.
That being said I am a case, a case of happy, giddy, kinda scared and thrilled rolled into one big bundle of woman, LOL.
I also learned that their will be 3 of us having surgery that day so it will be nice to have some company.
I have a whole list of questions to ask this Wednesday at pre-op day, :).

Want hear kind of awesome?

I went to meet with a client last evening, Sunday, to pick up some paperwork and explained to her that I was having surgery and would not be available from the 25th until December 2. She asked me what type so I told her. Both she and her daughter gasped. I am thinking to myself, "Oh great, I hope they are not the Anti Bariatric Nazi police or something." Come to find out she is 11 years out from gastric by-pass and doing wonderfully. She has maintained her weight very easily by following the guidelines and the desire to stay healthy and fit through commitment to herself. She looks wonderful at 60. I would have guessed her to be closer to 45 or so. Her hair looked great, her skin was in great shape and she looked so healthy overall.
She said this was the best decision she has ever made for herself..
Isn't it amazing how people seem to be where you need them the most just kind of show up out of the clear blue.

Wow I just read this.. how great !!! I think there probably are a lot of great success stories out there but we mainly hear about the failures. :)

Seems people thrive on others failures than they do success of others. I think of it this way, " How many people have actually had bariatric surgery. Out of that number how many have failed. Now look at how many have succeeded... Seems to me based on statistics, more people succeed, it just is not fun for people to be happy for the large number of people who are successful."

Example: 25,000 have a procedure, of that number 2 thousand fail. You only hear about the 2,000 not the 23,000 that succeded.

The more I am talking to people the more long term success stories I am hearing and seeing. My husband was talking to a gentleman at my pre-op who is 15+ years out and he is doing wonderfully. We both met other patients who were 5+ years out and doing great.
The people we have met, not that many actually who have not made it seem to be quiet young, still into partying and the instant self gratification phase of young adulthood. The others we have met had alcohol addiction issues which they refuse to handle with help.

I am learning the key to success is to be true to self and follow through with your commitment to self and health.. I am not perfect but dammit I want to be healthy and able to live my life and do what I love. My oldest is getting married next Christmas and I want to be around to spoil any grandbabies that may come along, I'll be the Grammy who gives the kids drum sets, electric guitars, book, art sets, take them fishing and hunting, teach them to garden and have fun with life and best of all LOVE them unconditionally.

Best wishes to you.

I agree focus on the positive and the success. I am post op now 18 days. I am feeling so good. Everything went well. As a bonus my surgeon repaired a hiatal hernia that I had and didn't know about. That solved a nagging cough that I get quite often.

Now, the weight is coming off nicely. The new way of living and eating is becoming habit and the rest of my life is ahead of me; hopefully a longer life.

No need for diabetic medicines anymore including 80 units of insulin daily. We will see how to reduce blood pressure meds as weight loss progresses. I am already dialing down the pressure on my CPAP machine; maybe off of it completely within a year. The knees aren't aching like they used to . The legs aren't swollen anymore. On and on and on.

Success is sweet. Why would anyone defeat it?

Best wishes,

Ralph
