BAKED KALE CHIPS

INGREDIENTS
1 bunch kale
1 tablespoon olive oil or spray oil or your choice (saves calories)
Pinch or 2 of sea salt or other seasoning of choice (a little goes a long way)

METHOD
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F. Line a non insulated cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Remove the leaves from the thick stems and tear into bite size pieces. Wash and thoroughly dry kale with a salad spinner. Drizzle kale with olive oil (or spray oil) and sprinkle with salt. If you put the trimmed kale in your clean kitchen sink and mist with cooking spray oil it will be easy to clean up. I spray lightly, toss then spray again, toss then add a pinch of sea salt.
Bake until the edges brown but are not burned, 10 to 15 minutes. Remove finished kale with a spatula to avoid crumbling. SEE ALTERNATE BAKING METHOD BELOW.

ALTERNATE BAKING METHOD
Pre heat oven to 300 degrees then lower temperature to 170 degrees. Immediately place sheet of prepared kale into oven. Rotate sheet after 15 minutes. Continue to bake at 170 degrees anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes rotating sheet every 15 or 20 minutes. Depending on how much kale is piled on the sheet and how dry it is will affect cooking time. If you make a second batch make sure to pre heat the EMPTY oven to 300 degrees again then repeat the baking process. This method takes longer but you are far less likely to burn a batch doing it this way.

OVENS VARY SO WATCH THE TIME AND TEMPERATURE VERY CAFEFULLY TO AVOID BURNING. YOUR OVEN MAY REQUIRE A SLIGHTLY LOWER TEMPERATURE SETTING OR REDUCED COOKING TIME. WATCH CAREFULLY FOR DONENESS

I just edited the baked kale recipe so if you read it or copied it already please note the changes. I try to make my recipies as user friendly as possible and added my alternate baking method to the recipe. I also reduced the salt to a pinch since it gets very concentrated as the kale dries out. I'm not a big kale fan but find the kale chips absolutely delicious. If you use the green curly kale it will be less bitter than the other types. And to save time I use the bagged, pre-washed kale and only have to trim off the thick stems. I have never had any grit or anything in it so I never re wash it. The brand I use is Glory and is usually next to the bagged salads in the produce section.
