before the gym or workout, or on the trail

I've been making protein bars since I had the surgery in 2007. They cost a fortune & have more calories than I want. So I look for recipes all the time.

I saw these a few days ago & made them. I don't like walnuts that much so I used pecans. I left out the oatmeal accidentally, but I'd added some other things, so no problem. As you mix it up, you might want to add more protein powder if you think the dough is too thready. I rolled out the sticky dough, which you make in a food processor, between two sheets of waxed paper & cut them into bars. I'm attaching a photo of mine, as well as the photo from the walnut lobby that sponsored the recipe.

Oh, I forgot to say, I'm looking for a recipe for savory protein bars. I get really tired of the sweet ones, especially the ones you buy at the store. I found a recipe that sounded good years ago, but never got around to making it. The savory bars have to contain some kind of meat & it really has to be preserved meat, like dry sausages or even bacon. I guess you could use ham or beef jerky as well. But like I said, I didn't make them when I had the recipe which I have long since lost. If you know one or want to invent one, I'll be in your debt forever!
