Chicago Style Italian Beef - Slow Cooker

5lb Chuck Roast - you can use another kind but the fat content of chuck really works well for this
3 C Beef Broth
1 t. each
Salt, Black Pepper, Dried Oregano, Dried Basil, Onion Salt, Dried Parsley, Garlic Powder
1 Packet Dry Italian Salad Dressing Mix
1 Bay Leaf
1/2 t. Red Pepper Flakes (if you like a little heat)

Place the roast into the slow cooker.
Combine the rest of the ingredients into a small sauce pan and bring to a boil.
Pour broth mixture over roast.
Cook on low for 10 hours and shred beef with a fork.

This makes plenty of au jus, so you can dip the whole sandwich if you like.

Why oh why did I read this at lunchtime? Now I'm wanting this (or should I say, I'm wanting this now!), but I'll have to go to the store 1st. I've never seen dry Italian dressing mix. Hopefully they'll have it with the other package mixes, like McCormick's gravy mix, etc. Can't wait to try this.
