Food Adjustments/Exchanges

I was just reading the post on Corn on the Cob (YUM!) and how some use butter spray instead of actual butter. While that's not for me, it did get me thinking about the changes/adjustments we all make in our diets to make things healthier for us. For example,

I use half cauliflower when I make mashed potatoes now. Turnips work too, but they're too watery for my taste.
I add fresh grapes and apples to chicken salad instead of dried cranberries and use greek yogurt for half the (light) mayo.

What are some of your favorite swaps or exchanges that either take some calories away or add some much needed nutrients to your recipes?

I stopped using margarine, and only use butter now for the fats. I have subbed Greek yogurt for Mayo, but I don’t use lite or low fat of either. I like using chickpea or lentil pasta, but my family doesn’t like the texture, so I just make a small serving for myself when we have pasta. I add in unflavored protein powder when I’m making kodiak cake waffles. I started using muffin mix to make different waffles for my family, and I also use unflavored protein powder in that mix as well.

Splenda, instead of sugar, 2% milk, if there’s flour in a recipe I use almond or coconut flour. I still use regular mayo, just way way less. No white bread, rice, potatoes or pasta. Wild rice occasionally, and really high protein whole grain bread if I eat any bread at all.
Recently, I ate some regular whole wheat bread that was a little high in carbs because the store was out of my regular brand and I gained 2 lbs n a couple of days. I was horrified! I didn’t even eat that much. I couldn’t believe it.
I won’t be buying that kind of bread again!

Fat free cheese…. Egg beaters…. Plant based meat vs real hamburger/chicken….. seafood and fish….. fairlife milk….. 2 good yogurt…. Splenda…. Chickpea pasta…. Anything I can get vegetarian or “lite”. I eat no butter or sugar, cakes, ice cream etc.
Liddi- what is your favorite brand of veggie burger? I am just on regular diet as of Friday and can broaden my horizons a little.
