Getting Close

After being on this journey of getting referrals, tests, clearances, etc since Sept. , I can't believe that my surgery date is next Wednesday, March 18. Yesterday, I went to the hospital for my pre-admission tests. I've been away in FL for the last few weeks, what a difference at the Hospital. I was stopped by a guard and a stop sign. I didn't realize that I was suppose to stop and started walking to the admissions desk. I was immediately stopped and asked if about my medical state (a few questions) I passed and was able to check in and have the tests.

On Monday, I see the surgeon for the pre- surgical visit. It's now happening so fast,, I can't believe next week this time, it will be over and I might be home. I am on my pre surgery diet and am finishing day 2. The diet menu isn't too bad--3 protein shakes a day, breakfast of egg whites, oatmeal or cream of wheat. Lunch and dinner of 3 oz of chicken, turkey or fish with vegetables. I can also have cottage cheese or yogurt and one serving of mainly berries or unsweetened applesauce.

Thank you for your encouraging words. The Nurse who did my pre-admission tests told me to ask the Dr. any questions on my mind at Monday's pre-surgical Dr.'s visit. Any questions that you asked or wished you asked the Dr. would be helpful. The Nurse suggested that I ask how the pain would be handled. Also, any words of wisdom for when I return from surgery?? I know and plan on walking, walking, & walking!! :) to release the air.

I will tell you that the pain meds that doc gave me post op were zofran, morphine, phenergan, and toradol. I had significant pain post op and initially the nurse gave me morphine and the nausea meds. It basically made me sleep for short periods but it never helped the pain so I would wake right up with the same sharp stabbing epigastric pain. What helped was when I was finally alert off the anesthesia enough to refuse the morphine and get the toradol and had them add ofirmev (iv tylenol) scheduled and alternating with around the clock nausea meds. Finally pain was controlled.
