When I was in the hospital they placed pads on both shoulders. At home, I draped one across my shoulders and back. At the very least, it felt good, and at best I believe it did help the CO2 to escape a bit more rapidly, which is what they told me at the hospital. Whether that is science fact, a placebo or somewhere in between probably doesn't matter too much. I got some good out of it and recommend it to others. I know some people don't have any gas related pain at all. I'd say mine was gone by day 3 post-op.
