just starting soft foods and having trouble eating just three meals a day. would like help and ideas on how to get on track.

Hi Marsha, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!!

Your new size tummy should only be able to hold about 2 or 3 oz. You don't want to stretch it out. Even if you need to eat more often than 3 times a day like a snack before bedtime.. just a couple ounces of eggs, applesauce etc shouldn't hurt you. Eat slowly, chew chew chew, and don't stretch out your tummy especially at this early date. It took me over a year to be able to eat 4 oz at one time.

Good Luck

Hi Marshalee,
In the beginning of this journey as you move into the "soft-food" mode it's hard to get all of your fluids and foods down since the size of your stomach has changed, and it takes some time for your new and improved stomach to accept and adapt to the changes as well. Your Surgeon's nutritionist should have provided you with a worksheet indicating the types of soft foods you can eat. It's important to hydrate as well as eat. Concentrate on your fluid intake, wait a 1/2 hour to an hour and eat a small portion of one of your favorite soft food choices. Yogurt has a sufficient amount of protein and it's easy to get down as well. As you focus on your fluid intake, also focus on the daily protein requirement as well. Try to stay away from any high-sugar soft foods, which can stimulate your hunger, and leave you feeling bloated and tired. Oatmeal (weight-control) is also filling if you don't add a lot of water to it, and has protein benefits, in addition to ground chic peas with oil and vinegar for flavor. Ground chicken, turkey, or tuna in a pureed' form gives you a sufficient amount of protein too. Play around with your options....I've also used to eat soft yams which were rich in nutrition and vitamins. As Cheyenne suggested eggs are a great source of protein too. Each day monitor your fluids and protein intake for optimum results! I hope I've given you some helpful suggestions.
