Hi All, I am new to this site and want to say Hi!

Hi all, My name is Linda and I had my bypass in March of 2010. At first it was very slow going, and now it's just a stand still! I have only lost 20lbs. (yes, only 20) and am stuck!! I lost my insurance, at i month in and haven't been able to see any Drs. for this long. I was just 61 when I had the surgery and my Husband got laid off and now he is on Medicare and I am without any insurance until I turn 65. (2 years). I am just beside myself and feel like a total failure!! I read about people losing and losing, and I just can't seem to, at all, anymore. I have had a knee replacement surgery and can't walk that much but still do a fair amount of exercising. I have given up and just excepted that I am one of few who it just didn't work for. I don't want to sound like I am whinning and I don't feel sorry for myself, but people look at me like ,what happened to you?! It's so degrading. Has anyone been there done that?? I can't even afford to go to a Dr. anymore. BTW, I was 234 when I went in and am now at 220.:( Thanks for listening All. Linda

Hi Linda, Welcome. I am sorry to hear you lost your insurance. You need to start taking steps to make sure you stay healthy starting with vitamins, since you have the RnY you will be vitamin defficent if you dan't take supplaments, you should have been told to take a good multi-vitamin, extra calcium citrate, ferrous iron, D3, and B12, those are what most of us are lacking after the first year but it takes expensive blood work to find out what you are low in and you may not be able to afford that, but all those vitamins are readily available in a drug store or health food store, talk to a nutritionist experienced in bariatrics if you can afford one and explain your situation they should be able to give you some guidelines, and start going to a support group.

Now don't beat yourself up for not losing weight when you have not been on a medically supervised program, it is not at all suprising this hasn't worked for you given the circimstances. The first thing you need to do is go to the 5 day pouch test link and do that; http://www.americanbariatrics.org/content.php/80-Roux-en-Y-Gastric-Bypass-5-Day-Pouch-Test and start back on your post op meal plan if you don't have that paper work any more information can be found on links at the end of each stage of the puch test. WLS is only a tool and does not guerentee weight loss we have toi work at it. If you do this it will work as long as your pouch is still working but you must follow a meal plan and change your eating behaviors and habits. Let us know how you are doing. Tom

Hi Tom, I want to thank you for answering me. I will try the pouch test again, and yes I know it is a tool, but due to my losing the insurance I felt really low and down on myself that I couldn't do it myself!I do need the encouragement as I am already at my bottom. So I will try and Thank you again for your support!! I see you have done fantastic!!!! Congrats to you!!! I will let you know how it's going!!! Thanks again Linda:)
