How much help

That is hard to quantify since everyone has different needs and handles surgery differently. I personally could have managed without any help post surgery, but it is always nice to have help. I would say to have someone help when you come home for a day or two to be sure you are able to manage. If you need more, ask for it, and if not, it is still nice to have had the help for a couple days.

Thankyou for the feedback.

FYI, you only need to ask your question one time. Sometimes it gets really confusing trying to figure out the threads but it's even worse when there are too many threads and the reader isn't sure if the poster actually has already read his or her comment.

If you need any instructions, feel free to ask anyone in the group. And welcome. I hope we can be helpful and supportive of you.

I think everyone should have someone around while you are on the narcotics, just to make certain you get to the bathroom and back, see how steady on your feet you are going to be, and fetch you stuff to drink. Once you are no longer taking the narcotics, you should be fine on your own. Now all that changes if you have small children that need tended to or pets that need taken care of. Then you might need someone a bit longer just to make certain you don't do anything that might pull on your staples or stitches. I pretty much slept my first two days home from the hospital and it was nice to have my wife check on me once in a while and see if I needed anything. The narcotics made me dizzy every time I stood up. Some folks come home the first day, don't take any narcotics, not in any real pain and probably didn't need anyone around. Everyone's journey is different.
