I have a surgery date!

Hello Everyone,

I'm so excited! My surgeon's office called and said the insurance approved my surgery and I am scheduled to have a gastric sleeve surgery May 16th! By the time I have all of my pre-op appointments, it will be here before I know it! I had wanted to have the gastric bypass surgery, but due to some liver problems my surgeon decided it was too invasive. I've read enough about the sleeve now, that I believe it will work for me.

In my opinion the sleeve works beautifully. You don't loose weight as quickly as the RNY but for me that is not that big of a problem. Your stomach is intact for the most part including the valve at the bottom of the stomach, so dumping is not an issue. I did however have a good deal of nausea in the first three months after surgery. You will recover faster because your intestines are untouched and not rerouted in nine different directions. It is in my opinion a more elegant procedure. Because your general anatomy is in tact; I believe over the long run it is easier to live with requiring less maintenance. On a long journey such as ours taking us to then end of our lives its our mental factors such as commitment and attitude which is as important as the procedure we have.

regards

Congratulations! Good luck as you continue on this journey. Come back often and keep us posted on how you are doing. Joy

Hi Oakieatheart, good to hear that you feel good about the type of surgery you're going to get. My insurance turned me down for gastric sleeve, but approved me for RNY, so I had to switch gears real quick. I am very happy with the results. You'll do great as long as you follow the plan.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm doing a quick shifting of gears to the sleeve, but I believe it will be successful.
