It is official, 13 days and a wake up till surgery. Pre-surg diet starts today

I know I am going to have a day or 2 of frustration, which I will cope with.

Here the pre-surg diet that my surgeon gave me:

AM
• Protein Drink Supplement
• 1 cup skim milk or container light yogurt
Mid Morning
• Fiber Supplement (5 grams of fiber)
Noon • Protein Drink Supplement
• Fiber Supplement (5 grams of fiber)
• 1 cup skim milk or container light yogurt
Afternoon
• 1- cup raw vegetables(this can be a small salad mixed with a fat free vinaigrette dressing)
Dinner
• Protein Drink Supplement
• Fiber Supplement (5 grams of fiber)
Evening
• Protein Drink Supplement
• 1- cup skim milk or container light yogurt

• You are only allowed three servings of dairy per day. For example: if you mix one of your protein supplements with milk, then you have used one serving of dairy and are only allowed two more. If you mix three supplements with milk, then you are not allowed to have any more dairy that day. When you have used all your dairy servings, you may mix your protein powder with water.
• Be sure to include a complete multivitamin twice a day, as well as 100 ounces of free liquid (water, crystal light, decaf hot tea, diet decaf iced tea, broth, decaf coffee, propel water, sugar free jell-o, sugar free popsicles) Your are permitted to use a sugar substitute. Please note: your fiber supplements and your protein supplements count toward your 100 ounces of fluid. You may consumer over 100 ounces of the free liquids listed above if you desire. The fiber supplement three times a day equals 24 ounces and the protein supplement four times a day equals 32 ounces, so you will need to consume an additional 44 ounces of free liquid per day, but again, you may consume more.
• You can purchase your protein supplement at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, or our office. It can be any brand as long as it contains pure whey protein isolate, at least 20 to 30 grams of protein per serving, is low fat, and has less than 5 grams of carbohydrates. Please note: If your protein supplement contains 40 grams or more of protein, you will need to cut the serving in half (i.e.: 20 grams each serving)

LOL, OK Define ride of my life... :)

To me this whole surgery trip was an adventure. I felt stuck in my life. I used to be very active before I was in a car accident and hurt my knees about 7 yrs ago. I have been heavy for years but it never stopped me until my accident and I hurt so bad and just watched tv and gained more and more weight. I then started having other health problems and my cardiologist encouraged me to get bariatric surgery. It was a great decision and I am so glad I decided to go for it. Preparing for surgery was a lot of work, it was a life changing event in itself. Then the surgery was such a positive experience. The new way of eating was and still is my life now. Fitting in smaller clothes is such a high. Putting jeans on for the first time in years was wonderful. Looking foward to going swimming next summer, maybe even going on a cruise in the future. I am so happy thinking about enjoying the rest of my life. I only wish I would have done this years earlier!!!!

I have 15 days until I start my liquid diet and I mean full liquid diet no veggies no yogurt just protein shakes, skim milk, broth and water. I have to stay between 500 and 700 calories and stay under 50 grams of carbs. So out of the 4-5 protein shakes I can make 2-3 with skim milk and the other 2 with water.

29 days until surgery!!

Oh yes this has been an adventure, :)... I have hope again in my life which is something that has been missing for a while.
I was referred for Gastric By-Pass to correct some major esophageal issues that were diagnosed several months ago by my GI during a Swallow study. My esophagus only works correctly about 85% of the time and the sphincter does not close all of the way on top of some major scarring I have due to the issues. The first surgeon I was referred to asked me how many times a year I am diagnosed with pneumonia. When I told him 5 to 8 times a year he was not surprised in the least. He asked if I was ever told I had aspiration pneumonia and I explained to him that my PCP treated it and had told me that it was asthma related. He was like on honey, this is not asthma related by any means. He pulled out my test results and went over everything with my husband and I. At this point he told us that he did not do the surgery I needed to correct my issues. He then explained to us that the R-N-Y was originally developed to treat the esophageal issues I have. He also said the nice side effect for me will be the weight loss which I totally agreed with him on...
It will be awesome to not have to worry about further pulmonary scarring or esophageal scarring and damage AND it is awesome to have hope in my life again...

I agree. Hope is a wonderful thing. I guess all of us are looking for the hope of being all we can be. The hope of feeling well and looking well. The hope that this surgery will help us and change our lives for the better. :)

Best thing I ever did for myself was the surgery. I have lost 115 lbs so far and can walk/jog and keep up with life. The journey is awesome, yes there are days of blah but most days are wow did I do that and fit into that. Great things ahead.
