Life after gastric sleeve???

Hello everyone. I'm so glad I found this site. I am scheduled for Gastric Sleeve on Monday, 6/2 and have been going through previous posts and blogs. I have been on the pre op/liquid protein only diet and I feel like I'm STARVING! How long did it take for you to begin eating regular/solid foods? What types of foods can you absolutely not tolerate? I'm excited, scared and hopeful all at the same time. I do hope this changes my life for the better!

Welcome to a great board. I had the RNY, but the experience is similar. After the surgery, you will not be hungry and just getting in the recommended water and protein will be a chore. Over time this will change and you will want to eat. Stick with the plan and you will be satisfied and on your way to a healthier and happier you.

Once you have the surgery you will find it hard to meet your protein and fluid requirements. Hunger won't be that large an issue it took me at least three months before I got over my nausea during meals. Try as I might to eat it was difficult but eventually me myself and I and my new plumbing got used to each other. I am very happy with the the results so far. The surgery is only ten per cent of the process the other ninety per cent in mental. Good luck with your program. Having the surgery was maybe the best decision I've ever made after marrying my wife.

cheers

I have had absolutely NO problems since my surgery and it's the best thing I've done for myself! Everyone's right, the liquid diet before surgery did seem drastic...like you're starving, but you won't have this experience after. Not feeling hungry was a very odd thing for me! Water and protein shakes will be all you'll want to deal with. The doctor or dietician will let you know when you can move from liquid, to pureed, to soft foods, and then to a more normal diet. I got sick of broth and was happy just to start soft foods for the variety. It's not forever though, so you can do it! :D I'm fortunate that nothing I have eaten has ever made me sick. Lettuce is one food that just makes my stomach feel "bubbly" and strange if I eat too much of it. I've switched to spinach if I want salad and I don't have any problem. (Plus, I needed the iron!) Best of luck to you!
