new here surgery in 2 weeks

Hi I just joined and am looking for some support as I begin my journey. I have been using this site as a resource for all my questions and now that I have jumped thru all insurance hoops and have a surgery date decided to officially join.

My surgery is set for December 3rd, 2014. Mostly excited but maybe a little scared/concerned.

I really started looking into this surgery after there was an article in the New England Journal of Medicine touting the benefits and reduction in diabetes. I am not diabetic but if you looked up high risk for acquiring diabetes in the dictionary you'd see a picture of me. I am a cancer survivor of 5 years but lost a kidney and have reduced function in the remaining one, I would not do well as a diabetic.

I have two little boys who need there daddy for a long time. This is my motivation and reason for being proactive.

I hope to hear from you and would also be interested in keeping close contact with people who have a surgery date close to mine.

Hi, WELCOME to the Forum!!!

You have made a great choice for a journey to a healthier life. Everyone is excited but nervous and scared all at the same time. This is natural. Just make sure you have chosen a Bariatric Surgeon of Excellence and a Bariatric Hospital of Excellence for your surgery.

They number one key to success in my opinion is to eat small amounts at a time so not to stretch your stomach. Also be sure and follow your surgeon's instructions to the letter. Eat enough protein because this will help you feel well and lose weight.

Good Luck to you!
