I do hope that your surgeon has a team of folks to support you including a nutritionist and a bariatric psych as well as RN's and PA's. More importantly, his team should also be able to host forums and support groups. Our nutritionist along with another nutritionist runs weekly support groups. I go to Tuesday night meeting once a month. Here we meet with the nutritionist and we both help newcomers that are pre-op by answering any questions they have based on our experience to date. Also, we have post op groups where we discuss the various issues we are dealing with as well.
So, the buddy system, the support group should be within your surgeon's team. If it isn't, then I would go find a bigger group, a center of excellence hospital (this is important) and ask around plenty before committing to a surgery date.
Tell us more about you and your particular circumstances.
We are here to help and support one another. Just ask questions and read the new and older posts. There is a wealth of information on this forum. We are extremely happy to have new members who we can help and in turn will help others in the future.
