new to site

I had gastric bypass on 2/3/14 and I want to succeed but there are no support groups close to where I live, looking for an on line support group but Don't know how to do that either. I feel overwhelmed. All the rules and I can't do them perfect. Now on an antibiotic and diarrhea, I can't get in control -- It's making me depressed. It is making me question my chose.

WELCOME to this Forum, Exoticbird!!!

Don't feel overwhelmed, we are all on the same journey to better health and to a longer and healthier life! Your body is adjusting to the changes, it may take a little time but soon you should feel so much better as the weight melts off of you. We are all your friends :) and we will try to answer your questions and help you through any anxiety you may feel.

What are you drinking and eating that could be giving you diarrhea? Or possibly it could be a germ picked up at the hospital, my husband had that happen to him. It was called C-Diff. I myself had constipation problems for a long while after surgery, but its a lot better now.

Take Care,

Cheyenne

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. Know that it gets easier over time, but also that your new lifestyle is a learning process.
It's important to stick to your guidelines as closely as possible to ensure yourself the best possible recovery. Remember to be kind to yourself, as well. Your body has been through a lot. Upon getting home from surgery, I had diarrhea for almost the full duration of my full liquid phase. They told me before the surgery to expect it. It's also possible that the antibiotic is causing it. Have you talked to your doctor?

Thanks for the replies and supportive input! Watching Lennie videos and feeling like there is so much more to learn, and excited about it! Lots better than yesterday-Thanks again, I was feeling alone-just not good at putting thoughts into words yet. I love New CHAPTERS but they scare me - after surgery I'll just have to feel the fear and do it anyway (can't go back) and ok with that right now.

You're never alone, we are all here with you, cheering you on!

You're only a week out from surgery, things will get better and better as your body heals up and when you are eating more solid foods. You are probably still on liquids, which can cause diarrhea or possibly just going to soft foods like eggs, cottage cheese and applesauce. You will feel so much better as time progresses.

We look foward to you being an active member on this site.

It is so important to follow your surgeon's directions precisely.

You must eat/drink slowly; literally when drinking you drink a sip and stop. Another sip and stop. Then BURP, BURP AND BURP. Like a new born baby you have to get the gas out, otherwise you are going to experience pain, bloating, etc., for one to two hours after you eat or drink.

If you are having diarrhea, definitely speak and/or visit your surgeon immediately. You may be doing something wrong that he/she can help you with.

I become concerned about dehydration if your conditions continues for too long. You may be consuming something that is simply not agreeable to you. The choice of drinks and foods are very personal. What one person can tolerate another cannot.

Don't be afraid to just blurt out anything here. There are no stupid questions.

THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS THE ONE THAT ISN'T ASKED !!!

Best wishes,

Ralph

Went to my doctor on Monday, one week visit, my incisions were red and inflamed so they started the anti biotic. The antibiotic started the diarrhea - taking probiotic too. I'm being careful about my fluids so I Don't get dehydrated and I'm getting my protein in too. I have not experienced the burping???? And I admit I do drink too much too fast. Is burping the norm?

The burping really starts when you move to soft foods. One week visit is still liquids.

I am glad you went to Doctor. Good work. They are there to help you all the way. Yes, anti-biotics can cause the diarrhea; they can also cause constipation. There seems to be no happy middle with them.
