Hi I am new here! I had Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass on 12/7/11. My weight on my surgery date was 304lbs, this morning I was 282. I am kind of sad, scale has not moved much in 2 weeks, but my doctor says I am right on track. I just need more energy to exercise more!. Anyone out there can give me some tips regarding portion sizes? I am afraid to overeat!

You are almost a month out keep sticking to the meal plan given to you from your doctors. For me I wanted nothing more than to have some food to chew, so when I did I was full befor eating my alotted portion. My guess is you are working on yogurts cottage cheese, and soups. Just make sure to drink lots of fluids and remember about 45 min before and 1 1/2 hours after you eat, that was hard for me I always had tea or water with my meals.

Remember your body is going through changes right now, just because your scale is not moving doesn't mean your not shrinking, My support group all said to measure to see the difference but I just tried on cloths when my scale didn't move, it made me feel better. While you lose fat you gain lean muscle mass even though your scale doesn't move you are gettin thinner.

When I was able to start eating solid foods I found it best to use the tea cup sauser and that would make it easier to see what a portion looked like, I also weighed everything. I now use a little salad plate it is just a little bigger than the sauser and fits a whole meal on it for me. Most foods I can now use a measuring cup on, after using a scale to weigh things for the past year some things are consitant. I still use it to weigh my lunch meats and to spot check my portions to make sure I still measure things right.

You have lost 22 lbs that is doing great, we can't guage our weight loss off of others, we all lose at differnt rates, I hate to say it but men lose weigh quicker and I don't know why, maybe because we gain it quicker, but that too is dabateable.:) You should be going in soon for a check up, so if they don't weigh you on the fancy scale that breaks down the fat, muscle and water weight then ask for a weigh in, I am sure your fears will be rested. Also talk with your doctor and keep going to the support group meetings, it is so nice to talk with people who are going through all the same things. Good luck. Tom

Thanks for the tips! I should be getting a food scale then. I am currently eating fish, chicken, shrimp, omelettes, steamed vegetables, soups. Not sure if I should still be eating snacks like the 60 calorie sugar free puddings or jello, I try to eat fruit too but I rather be trying to get all my water in, which for me its the hardest thing. Thanks again!

Try crystal light I drink that in the winter when I don't feel like drinking water. It sounds like you are eating the right foods, it's been a while since I had my post op diet, it seemed like I was on liquids for ever. If you go to a gym or have started walking or weight training that will also make it seem like your loseing slowly but you will start to burn calories more efficiently. Let us know how it is going. Tom
