Not drinking after meals

Hi I'm 2 1/2 wks post op from gastric bypass. I see that everyone pretty much has to not drink 1/2 hour before or after meals. My doctor has everyone wait 1 hour after meals. It's killing me not to drink for this long? Any suggestions. It's not me personally, It's just his protocol.

I'm not sure why your doc wants you to wait that long, did you ask? I know I have trouble sometimes waiting 30 minutes. My Nut (nutritionist) said 20-30 min. I'm at 14 weeks now and will take a sip of tea or water when I'm thirsty regardless. If I just take a small sip and then wait about 5 minutes I'm ok. But at 2 1/2weeks I would have had a hard time doing this. Part of this journey is all about rediscovering your body. The doctor, nut, and fellow travelers are all here to help, but you ultimately are the one who knows your body best and how it feels after you do something to it. My best advice is take it slow and listen to your body. Protein and fluids are the two best things to put into your body. Movement is the best thing you can do for your body. Even if it is just moving in place, shaking your booty, or swing your arms, it all helps.

Just remember to have fun and smile as much as you can, it heals your body when you do this and those around you will feel better too.

quick question. If you 2.5 weeks out aren't you on a liquid diet? As for the hour that is what I did for the first 6 months or so. Eating to soon after can cause a full painful feeling for me. I'm now 8 months out and still wait around 45 to on hour. You will find the longer you wait the longer you feel full. Try to follow all the rules at first and if you have problems talk with your team. The way the surgeon does the surgery depicts many of their rules.

Good luck and congrats on the surgery
