Hello all! I had RNY on Feb. 1, 2012. I was up and walking laps in the hospital 2 hours post-op and was walking over a mile a day before I left the hospital on Sunday. The procedure and my journey thus far has gone very well! I was supposed to be released on Friday morning (surgery was on Wed. evening...got back to room from recovery at 10:30pm :0 ) However I began running an unexplained fever of 103! After several tests and the fever returning as soon as iv tylenol wore off, the surgeon took the iv out on sat. and said that sometimes people run a fever in reaction to iv fluids and meds. Sure enough, within about 5 hours, the fever was gone :) I was back at work within 3 weeks and have not had any worries or complications as of yet :) I only lost about 1.3 pounds after a week of the liquid diet....but have lost 25 lbs. since surgery :) I have also been cleared to stop taking 2 diabetes meds, a kidney med and a cholesterol med!!! I decided for sure in August to go ahead full steam with the surgery when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes! So happy I made this choice and can not wait to get back to the gym and my volleyball leagues.....gonna try next week, slowly but surely :)

It sounds like things are going great, I am so happy for you. I rember I was off my med within the first week, my blood pressure pills made me feel like passing out so I just stopped taking them and I started feeling better (my BP was dopping really low too) I also got the clearance to stop the chlesterol meds shortly after that. Your doing great!!!! Tom

Hi Laura
so glad to hear your postitive attitude and how things look like they are going well for you, I am in the process and haven't had my surgery yet. I am thankful for a place to talk with others as they are going through or have started there new journey to a new healthier person. Volleyball used to be one of my favorite sports when I was younger, to be able to play again would be great, take it slow,You have the right attitude. wishing you much success!
