I have my Dr, appt, scheduled on Sept 23rd 2014 with my dr. I will find out what my sur mygery date is then, I am converted from a Lapband to a Gastric Bypass, I have had the Band since 2006, it has not been that successful for me and my dr. said I would be a good candidate for a conversion, and have been accepted by my insurance so am on the way to getting the surgery. I could use some support and if anyone has had this done I would love to chat with them, Thanks so much, I am from Maine btw. Had my Lapband done in NH where I used to live, Waiting to hear from people, Mammysm@aol.com and on here too would be great. Donna

Donna, go to the "Forum Rules and Help" and read a recent posting under "Chat Room" from BeaDavis about how she converted from the lapband to the gastric bypass successfully and has been losing weight. You may want to write to her.

Hi Donna,

So many people have found it difficult to lose weight and then keep it off with the lapband. My gastric surgeon's practice has just about eliminated lapband as an option. Most folks today go for the gastric sleeve and then the bypass.

I chose the gastric bypass to get immediate results with controlling my T2 diabetes.

Otherwise, you might consider the sleeve. Either way, I have seen folks with good results by doing either gastric procedure.

Now, don't be fooled. I have also seen folks who go out of their way to defeat the procedure and ignore all the new "rules" for a new lifestyle that follow the surgery.

Success and failure are determined by your mind set and need/desire to see this through and commit to changing your way of life forever.

I personally don't understand how anyone can go through all of this effort having the sleeve or the bypass and then going back to their old ways of eating. You simply cannot.

I don't deny myself anything at this point. I do limit my intake. I have about 6 mini-meals a day. I don't eat a lot at any one sitting and this is the most important rule that I follow. This keeps the new stomach small. Yes, it does grow back a little but don't push it. 3 ounces of protein is still a lot for me at one sitting many times just 2 ounces. I also enjoy my cookie, my ice cream, my cereal, but in limited quantities. I may never be able to hav any sausage ever again; it simply has too much fat but I do take a "bite" once in awhile.

I cannot do salads like I used to do, but lately I am able to consume more vegetables; like up to a 1/2 to 1 cup at a sitting. The key here for me is eating ever so slowly; so important.

So, I am sure you will enjoy a wonderful experience by converting the only caveat is the procedure is literally just the beginning. It gives you the time in the early go to get used to your new way of eating, drinking, etc.

Best wishes,

Ralph
