Question about day before surgery!

My surgery is Tuesday Dec 4th! I am so ready & excited, however I am nervous about the colon "cleanser" I have to take the day before. I'm getting roux en y so I have to drink all that stuff. Is it awful? Or does it just put you on the toilet all day? You can be brutally honest with me!

I highly advise that you stay very near the toilet. I did not find the stuff all that bad. I think I quit going by bedtime. I did not have to do the bowel prep for my surgery but have had to do it for other things.

It's pretty bad. It's not going to the bathroom so much that's awful (for me) but when there's nothing left inside and you still have to go and you are just passing acidic water, or whatever. It burns. Makes you want to sit in a nice warm bathtub.

One of my requirements for my Bypass was to have a colonoscopy to rule out colon cancer especially since my mom's mom and her mom had it. I had to take Miralax in 64 ounces of sugar free propel (as opposed to gator ade) the propel had electrolytes in it. It didn't taste as bad as some things do that they have you take to do it. Yep, I was sitting on the toliet all night. Found out I can run to the bathroom real quick when the need arises. But, I was clear and all went well. It was negative-Yay!!

I was not told to take any cleanser and I asked about it and was told the doc does not require it, hmm that is interesting but I am glad to say the least!

Julia-I didn't have to have a colon cleanser before my RNY but I had to have a colonoscopy a couple of weeks before. I had to drink a half gallon of industrial strength "colon blow" starting the afternoon before the colonoscopy. It was a powder in a half gallon plastic jug and I had to add water to it. It tasted salty and was hard for me to drink. It took me a long time to drink enough of it to start working but once it did I thought it would never end. Since I need a hip replacement it's difficult for me to move very fast so I stayed VERY close to my bathroom. Towards the end I just stayed on the toilet. Lucky for me I could still see the TV *LOL* Under NO circumstances should you leave your house once you start drinking what ever you are given to take *LOL* You'll live through it :) :) :)

Oh, get yourself some of those wet wipes with Aloe (no alcohol). Even if you find the flushable kind I highly recommend that you toss them is a plastic grocery bag instead. I know this sounds gross but it sure beats calling a plumber to unclog the toilet and you don't want a clogged toilet while you are going through this.
