Surgery date is 9-28-20 - It has taken me 9 months to get to this point and I am so excited and nervous but can't wait for surgery to be over so I can start my new life
I have been the fat girl since 3rd grade - Tried to do this about 10 years ago but couldnt get to my goal weight
Finally doing it at 55 years old !

Welcome to the group, Desi. We are so happy to have you here. It's great that you're finding information by searching through the archives, which I am assuming you're doing. People who have been with this group for 20 years have left a lot of footprints.

As you read along, keep in mind the fact that the technology has changed drastically over the last 30 years. You may read something that sounds right but it may end up that it is wrong.

So do not be afraid to ask questions. Ask us anything. You will probably find somebody who has had the exact experience you have.

And if you are having a medical issue before or after surgery, we encourage you to talk to your doctor and or your nutritionist. We do not give medical advice here because we're not qualified. But we give you our stories and you can get a lot of information there.

I had RYGB surgery in an open procedure in August of 2007. I lost 115 lb. What surgery are you choosing? And tell us why you decided on that procedure or anything else you want to tell us including your comorbidities and your size and weight. You don't have to tell us anything personal if you don't want to but it usually helps.

Doing laparoscopic RNY - Thru Kaiser, It's been a long road super hard to lose 20 pounds in your fifties !
Started at 296 down to 275 - surgery weight is 276 struggling a little to get below 276 to have a little comfort zone
Have been doing Keto with some carbs to lose the 20 pounds took me 9 months to lose it
Also had to quit drinking wine - I miss the wine more than the carbs
4 weeks till surgery - excited just want it to be over, worried about pain afterwards
worried about keeping weight off for another 4 weeks waiting for surgery
Put doing my shopping and gathering things I will need for first two weeks after surgery
How much Biotin do people take and when do you start it ?

Are you concerned about hair loss? I did everything right and some of my hair fell out anyway but most of it grew back and you would never know I had any hair loss ever. My hair is both fine and thin, which really makes for a challenging recovery.

One of our old members made a resource file for people who were buying pre surgically to have stock on hand post-surgery. It's here: Pre surgery buying

I was 56 when I had my surgery 13 years ago. I drink wine and beer and if I want to, carbonated soft drinks. You are really restricted for the first year and maybe 2 years but then your life returns to normal and you'll use the bariatric surgery tool to keep your pouch small and smart. I don't eat a whole bunch of food, but I do eat any food I want to. And I still follow my protein guidelines and drink 2 liters of water everyday. The water is extremely important so if you're not used to drinking water, it would be good to start getting used to it now.

If you want to add supplements to your diet, you should tell your nutritionist first. Even something as simple as biotin might interfere with the process pre-surgically.
