I know when you look at a menu and you see a dish with rice in it, alot of us simply skip the option at the risk of feeling bloated with empty calories, sugar spike and expect to be lethargic afterwards. If anyone has eaten at an Indian or Nepalese restaurant, they have discovered Basmati rice and oddly discover that they are not sleepy after eating it. I remember people saying we should eat brown rice but really, dishes that want white rice, jasmine rice just does not taste the same.
Thought I'd share a bit of info on rice if you really gotta have some. Choose an alternative to what you normally grab at the store.

Now since being married to an Asia born woman we always have rice in the rice cooker. By that I mean, open the lid and there is rice in there. As I have mentioned previously my wife prefers that her rice be left in the cooker overnight on many instances (especially for perfect fried rice) as she would mention it's not done yet when I would point out a freshly cooked bot of rice. Part of the reason is the health benefit and less of a sugar spike. See here for the potential health benefits if you let it cool first. Being she has always done that in a warm tropical climate I guess I have no problem leaving it out in 70 degree air conditioned house.
